Traffic Diversions Across Central Delhi for BRICS Motorcade Rehearsal

Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions and regulated movement on key roads in the national capital from 11 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, September 1, for a motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, as reported by The Economic Times and ThePrint.

The advisory identifies more than 35 roads and 22 diversion points that could be affected during the rehearsal. The restrictions are expected to be particularly felt across New Delhi and other key VVIP corridors, with commuters traveling through central and south Delhi likely to face delays and diversions.

However, the advisory does not mean that all these roads will remain completely shut throughout the four-hour period. Traffic will be stopped, diverted, or regulated at specific points as the motorcade passes through different stretches.

The actual BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, according to government information cited by The Economic Times. ThePrint reported that the summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam between September 11 and 13.

Affected Roads and Diversion Points

Among the major roads listed in the advisory are Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, and Janpath, as reported by The Economic Times and ThePrint.

Other roads that will be affected include Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg, and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, according to The Economic Times and ThePrint.

The Delhi Traffic Police has identified specific diversion points where movement will be regulated by traffic police personnel. At Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, traffic will be barred towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg. Commercial vehicles beyond Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk will not be permitted towards W-Point, as reported by ThePrint.

Traffic approaching C-Hexagon from Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Janpath will be diverted. At Patel Chowk, movement towards Windsor Place and the RBI on Sansad Marg will be restricted. At the RML Hospital roundabout, traffic will not be allowed towards Mother Teresa Crescent and Talkatora Road. Simon Bolivar Marg will be restricted at Vande Matram Marg, while traffic from Dhaula Kuan Flyover will not be allowed towards Sardar Patel Marg. At Moti Bagh Flyover, traffic will be diverted away from Shanti Path. Movement towards Yashwant Place from Africa Avenue at Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg will also be restricted.

Advisory for Commuters

The Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to plan their journeys, use public transport, and leave earlier for railway stations and airports. Roadside parking is prohibited within the regulated roads except at authorized parking facilities. Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi during the specified period. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage, as per the advisory reported by The Economic Times.
