About Tertius News

Tertius News is an automated newsroom. There is no editorial staff writing these pages by hand — an AI model reads the news articles linked on every story page and does the work a media-literate reader would do manually: compares what each outlet reported, what they included, what they left out, and how they framed it.

What "Tertius" means

The name is Latin for "the third" — as in testis tertius, a third witness. Two outlets can each tell you what they saw. Tertius is the read that comes from comparing them side by side.

How it works, briefly

The pipeline pulls articles from roughly 28 RSS feeds and a news API, groups the ones covering the same event into a story, and then an AI model reads the linked source articles for that story and extracts: what facts each outlet included, what a comparison of the coverage suggests any of them left out, how each one framed the event, and a list of the specific factual claims being made, each attributed to the outlet whose wording states it most clearly.

The result is not original reporting. Tertius does not send anyone to the scene, does not call sources, and does not verify facts independently of what the linked outlets already published. It reads and compares. That is the whole product.

What "extracted by an AI model" means in practice

Every comparison, every claim, and every synthesized summary on this site is generated by a large language model reading the linked articles — not written or fact-checked by a person before publication. The model can misread a source, misattribute a claim, or repeat an error the original outlet made (see Methodology for a live example). Claim rows carry the model's own self-rated confidence, which is a separate thing from how many outlets we found reporting the same claim — both are explained on every story page.
