Kelly Osbourne opens up about grief and public scrutiny

More than a year after the death of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, his daughter Kelly Osbourne has spoken publicly about the emotional toll of public scrutiny she faced while grieving. In an interview with , the 41-year-old addressed comments surrounding her appearance, admitting she was not in a place to handle criticism while mourning her father.

"I didn't navigate it — I wasn't well," Osbourne said, adding, "How can you navigate something so cruel when you're so sick?"

Osbourne also reflected on the family's immediate response to Ozzy's death, revealing that his body was brought home rather than taken to a morgue. "We didn't put my dad in any sort of morgue. He came straight home and we got to spend a few days with him and mourn with him and make sure that everything was the way we wanted it to be," she said.

The singer and television personality credited Ozzy's fans with helping the family through the early stages of grief. "It saved us. Every note, every flower, every gift that was sent to us—we received, we read, we acknowledged, and the people we could find the time to write back to and thank, we did. It showed us that they loved him as much as we loved them. Because he really did," she said.

Healing and therapy

Osbourne said she is now working toward healing, both mentally and physically. "You've got to fix the head before you can fix the body," she said. "It's a slow process."

She acknowledged that recovery is an ongoing effort. "It's going to take me a minute. I'm not going to be fixed in a day. I'm not going to be fixed on one therapy session. This is a lifetime of work I've got to do and continue to do for the rest of my life," she explained.

Osbourne, who said she has "all the help" she needs, added that therapy has helped her better understand herself. "I'm getting to know myself in a whole new way, but it's a lot more healthy, I can tell you that," she said.

Reflecting on the lasting impact of her father's death, Osbourne said, "I'll never be the person I was before my father died. A part of me died, too. Everything is different. I'm different. Everything has changed, but it's just taking it one day at a time and putting the pieces back together in a way that you think will work."

Earlier this year, Osbourne accepted a lifetime achievement award with her mother, Sharon Osbourne, on behalf of her father at the BRIT Awards on February 28. She also took to social media to address those who criticized her appearance.

In December 2025, Sharon Osbourne defended her daughter during an appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" after online trolls attacked Kelly's appearance.

Ozzy Osbourne died at home in England on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76. He was the father of six children: Elliot Kingsley, Jessica Osbourne, and Louis Osbourne with his first wife, Thelma Riley, and Aimee, Jack, and Kelly with Sharon.
