Israel strips Palestinians of control over holy site in Hebron
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the transfer of planning and construction powers over the Ibrahimi Mosque/Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron from Palestinian to Israeli control, scrapping parts of the 1997 Hebron Agreement. The Israeli Foreign Ministry denied that the agreement was fully annulled, citing only a prior cabinet decision on Jewish heritage sites, while the Palestinian Authority and others condemned the move as illegal and dangerous.
