An Indian man living and working in the United States has ignited an online conversation after responding to the claim that Indian immigrants “steal” jobs from American workers. In a video shared on Instagram, Yuvaan Ibañez Garware pushed back against the narrative, arguing that immigrants often succeed through hard work and adaptability.
The video's argument
In the video, Garware addressed the challenges immigrants frequently face when moving abroad, noting visa restrictions, cultural differences, language barriers and the absence of an established professional network. Despite these hurdles, he argued, many Indians manage to build successful careers through persistence and adaptability.
Garware questioned what people mean when they claim Indians are taking away jobs. He cited professions such as medicine, software engineering and data analysis, arguing that these careers require years of education, specialised skills and professional training rather than simply being “stolen” from someone else. He also pointed to jobs with difficult schedules or unconventional working hours, saying immigrants often accept such work because of their determination to establish themselves.

“Indians come here and steal our jobs. Bro, if someone can move across the world to a country where no one speaks their native language, has zero connections, is on a visa, and within a few months take your job, you did not deserve that job. And what jobs are we talking about, by the way?” Garware said.
He went on to refer to professions requiring years of education and specialised training: “Doctors? Software engineers? Data analysts? They didn't steal those; they spent five years in IIT Kharagpur while you were getting blacked-out drunk at parties.”
He then turned to jobs involving difficult or unconventional hours: “Or are you talking about driving an Uber at 5:00 in the morning or managing a gas station at midnight? That's the stuff no one wants to do, but Indians do it because they work hard and refuse to lose.”
Addressing the stereotype of laziness, he added: “So to call Indians lazy while outworking you is crazy. So as an Indian guy who lives in the S. himself, we are probably one of the most adaptable species on the planet.”
The video was posted with the caption, “You didn’t get robbed, you got outworked.”
