Rescue after fall from Dartmoor bridge
A woman was taken to hospital after a 'significant fall' from a bridge on Dartmoor, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
The incident happened along Cadover Bridge Road in Plymouth, where the woman fell down the side of the bridge onto rocks below. The fire service was called to assist the ambulance service at around 8.12pm on Sunday, 23 August.
A crew from Crownhill Fire Station attended the scene. A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A crew from one of our Plymouth stations at Crownhill assisted the Ambulance Service this evening after they requested our attendance to a casualty that had fallen down the side of a bridge at Cadover Bridge Road in Plymouth."
Rescue operation
After the woman was assessed and stabilised by paramedics, an evacuation plan was formulated. The joint effort by ambulance and fire service personnel resulted in a successful rescue.
By 9.30pm, the woman had been extricated onto a stretcher, taken up the bank and back onto land, according to the fire service. She was then transported to hospital in a land ambulance.
The fire service spokesperson described the fall as "significant" and confirmed the woman had landed on rocks.
The exact nature of the woman's injuries has not been disclosed, and her current condition is unknown. The fire service did not provide further details about the cause of the fall or the woman's identity.
