Injury Update and Recovery Timeline

Jimmy Butler of the Golden State Warriors has been sidelined since tearing his ACL midway through the 2025-26 season. For months, no specific return date had been reported, only a general expectation that the 36-year-old forward would play for the Warriors at some point this season.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Christmas Day is emerging as a potential return date for Butler. Speaking on the Clutch Scoops podcast, Siegel said, "It does seem like that Christmas would be the earliest that he could potentially return. But again, there's no timeline on this." He added, "I fully anticipate him being back before the trade deadline based on everything I've heard to this point."

Siegel noted there have been "minor signs" that Butler is recovering well, potentially ahead of the typical ACL recovery schedule. In a separate report, he offered a more conservative estimate, saying Butler's return would realistically come "sometime in January or February 2027." The exact timing, Siegel said, would depend on Butler's progress and the Warriors' medical staff decisions. Golden State has not issued any official injury updates or recovery timelines for Butler.

Contract and Trade Speculation

Butler is in the second and final year of a two-year, $121 million extension signed in 2025. He, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green are all entering the final year of their contracts together, a situation that has fueled speculation about the Warriors' roster moves.

Siegel suggested that if the Warriors are struggling by the trade deadline, they could become sellers, with Butler among the most likely players to be moved. "If they're failing expectations and they're a bottom team in the West by the trade deadline, you're going to see them sell," he said. Butler's name has been heavily mentioned in trade rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, though no concrete deals have been reported.

Butler, a six-time All-Star, has been a key part of the Warriors' lineup since joining the team. His potential return before the trade deadline could influence both the team's playoff push and their decisions at the deadline.
