Australia cruise past West Indies in final warm-up
Australia will head into the Women's T20 World Cup in a confident mood after Georgia Voll led a dominant six-wicket win over West Indies in their final warm-up match in Cardiff, as reported by ABC Australia.
After restricting West Indies to 131, Australia knocked off the target with ease, with Voll uncatchable on an unbeaten 77 from 48 balls, an innings featuring 10 fours and two sixes, according to the report. The in-form Beth Mooney made 34 from 18 balls before Australia retired the opener to give other batters a chance.
Captain Sophie Molineux told ABC Australia she was satisfied with her team's preparations: "I felt like there were a few bits and pieces we wanted to tick off and we did today. So I'm very pleased."
Molineux claimed bowling figures of 1-19 from three overs, while Ashleigh Gardner (2-17) and Lucy Hamilton (2-19) were the most productive of the Australian bowlers.
Strong form across the warm-up series
Australia's warm-up campaign included earlier wins over England, the Netherlands, and South Africa, according to ABC Australia.
In their penultimate warm-up, Australia cruised to a five-wicket victory over England in Cardiff, after restricting the hosts to 6-157 and reaching the target with 10 balls to spare. Ellyse Perry top-scored with a ruthless 64 from 44 balls, while Beth Mooney set the platform with 43 from 26 balls. Phoebe Litchfield was withdrawn before the match as a precaution after feeling "quad awareness", a reference to the muscles at the front of the thigh.
Australia also recorded a 98-run win over the Netherlands in Southampton, with Mooney striking an unbeaten 74 off 42 deliveries before retiring hurt with back stiffness. Georgia Wareham contributed 41 from 18 balls, while Ash Gardner made 58 off 32 balls.
Earlier, Australia had beaten South Africa by 85 runs in the last of three informal hit-outs at Arundel Castle, with Gardner scoring a half-century of 66 from 38 balls and Wareham chipping in with 52 off 29 deliveries.
