The United States has conducted another round of strikes against Iran, marking the eighth consecutive night of US military action, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The strikes, which included hits on Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, were carried out "at the Commander in Chief direction," CENTCOM said in a statement. The command also reported targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces that launched attacks against US service members in Jordan on July 17.
US warplanes reportedly struck near the city of Shadegan in southern Iran, as state TV reported, according to the Jerusalem Post. The report cited state television but did not provide further details. The Khuzestan province's deputy governor later confirmed that a US missile strike hit areas in the vicinity of the city, as quoted by the Fars news agency, according to TASS.
Earlier in the campaign, CENTCOM said it had completed a new series of strikes on Iran, hitting more than 80 targets with precision munitions. In that round, the command claimed to have struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, and anti-ship missile capabilities, as well as more than 60 IRGC small boats in and near the Strait of Hormuz.
The ongoing strikes are designed to "further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish" IRGC forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan, according to a CENTCOM statement. The command has also said the strikes aim to "further diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries."
The strikes come amid heightened tensions in the region, with the US military responding to what it describes as attacks by Iran on US personnel and commercial vessels. The campaign has now extended over multiple nights, with CENTCOM reporting continued operations against Iranian military capabilities.
