Result Declared

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the written result of the Combined Medical Services (CMS) Examination 2026, according to a press note dated September 1, 2026. The written examination was conducted on August 2, 2026. Candidates who have qualified have been shortlisted for the next stage—the Personality Test/Interview.

The roll numbers of qualified candidates have been published in the official result document. Candidates are advised to check the list using their CMS Examination 2026 roll number rather than relying on unofficial result lists. The result is available on the UPSC website, and candidates can verify their status by entering their roll number.

Next Steps for Shortlisted Candidates

Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the result list must complete a mandatory online process before appearing for the Personality Test. According to UPSC, a 15-day window will be provided after the declaration of the written result. During this period, all candidates who have qualified under Rule 9(a)(ii) of the CMS Examination 2026 rules must log in to the UPSC online portal.

UPSC has stated that candidates must update their educational qualification status, including whether they are appearing for or have appeared in the requisite qualifying examination, and upload documents as proof of having passed the required examination. Even candidates who have already uploaded the required documents and have no information to update must log in, verify their details, and finally submit the application to generate the e-Summon Letter for the Personality Test. Failure to complete this process will result in candidates not being permitted to participate in further stages of the examination. UPSC has also clarified that no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

Provisional Candidature and Document Requirements

UPSC has clarified that the candidature of candidates shortlisted for the Personality Test is provisional, subject to their fulfilling all eligibility conditions. At the time of the Personality Test, candidates must produce original certificates in support of claims relating to age and date of birth, educational qualifications, community/category, benchmark disability (wherever applicable), and other eligibility requirements.

UPSC has cautioned that if a candidate fails to bring any or all of the required original documents, they will not be allowed to appear before the Personality Test Board, and in such cases, no Travelling Allowance (TA) will be provided. The Commission has advised candidates to keep the required certificates ready and check the detailed instructions available on the UPSC website before appearing for the Personality Test.

Interview Schedule and Final Selection

The schedule for the Personality Test/Interview will be uploaded on the UPSC website in due course, according to the Commission. The exact date of the interview will be communicated to candidates through their e-Summon Letter. UPSC has clarified that requests seeking a change in the date or time allotted for the Personality Test will ordinarily not be entertained.

The interview is tentatively expected to be conducted during October and November 2026, as reported by The Times of India. The final selection list will be prepared on the basis of candidates' combined performance in the written examination and Personality Test. The Personality Test carries 100 marks and will form part of the final selection process.

Mark Sheets and Result Details

The mark sheets of candidates will be uploaded on the UPSC website after the declaration of the final result, following completion of the Personality Test. They will remain available for 30 days, and candidates can access them by entering their roll number and date of birth. Candidates who want a printed or hard copy of their mark sheet must submit a specific request to UPSC along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, within 30 days of the publication of the marks on the Commission's website.

Vacancies and Exam Pattern

The CMS 2026 examination has a total of 1,358 vacancies, as reported by The Times of India. Category-I has 864 vacancies, primarily for Medical Officers in the Central Health Service (CHS) cadre. Category-II has 494 posts, including 450 in Indian Railways, 14 in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and 30 in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The written examination carries 500 marks, divided equally between two computer-based papers of 250 marks each. A negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to a question applies for every incorrect multiple-choice answer.
