Incident and Allegations
A 13-year-old Class 8 student in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district has died ten days after she was allegedly injured by her teacher during an examination. According to her father, Umesh Dixit, the student returned home from school on August 20 with severe pain and swelling in her arm. She later succumbed to her injuries on August 30.
The family has alleged that during the exam, the student asked another student to show her paper, leading to an argument. She then approached assistant teacher Rajendra Kumar Gangwar to complain. Instead of addressing her complaint, Dixit alleged, Gangwar grabbed her daughter's arm and twisted it severely, causing the injury.
Doctors who examined the girl found internal tissue damage, nerve rupture and blood clotting, Dixit said. The family first took her to a local doctor in Shahabad, where she was diagnosed with internal tissue damage and blood clotting and informed that treatment would be expensive.
Due to financial constraints, the family approached the police before admitting her to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad on August 26. When her condition worsened, relatives advised shifting her to a private hospital. Dixit said he took a loan to arrange treatment, but despite efforts to save her, the girl died on August 30.
Family's Complaint and Police Action
Umesh Dixit has filed a police complaint demanding strict action against Gangwar and a fair investigation. He has also sought an examination of his daughter's treatment records and statements from teachers and students present at the school.
Additionally, Dixit accused the school of not following up on her condition despite assurances from the teacher. He said that after he reached the school upon learning about the incident, Gangwar assured the family that the girl would receive treatment, but the school did not subsequently enquire about her condition.
Official Response and Investigation
The Basic Education Department has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Block Education Officer Dr Sunil Singh visited the school to investigate the allegations against Gangwar. Following the incident, two teachers, including the accused, have been suspended.
After the girl's death, an autopsy was conducted in Farrukhabad to determine the cause of death and whether the injuries contributed to her deterioration. The post-mortem report is awaited and is expected to help establish the cause of death and determine whether the injuries were linked to her fatal condition.
