Ukrainian Prime Minister Resigns Amid Government Reshuffle
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced fresh changes to Ukraine's government, according to Fox News and The Hindu.
In a statement on social media, Svyrydenko said she was “proud to have had the honor of leading the government during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine's modern history.” She added that she had discussed “next steps” with Zelenskyy but did not disclose her future role. “I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and carry out every task aimed at strengthening Ukraine's position, defending our national interests and bringing a just peace closer,” she wrote.
Zelenskyy, who has remained in office under martial law, framed the resignation as part of a broader strategic shift. “Ukraine is changing its political strategy,” he posted, according to Fox News. He said he had offered Svyrydenko the chance to lead “a new, important area” in relations with a key international partner.
The Hindu reported that Svyrydenko, a former Economy Minister, was named Prime Minister in July 2025 at age 39 after playing a key role in a mineral agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. That deal was seen as a way to tie U.S. interests to Ukraine's security.
Zelenskyy also announced changes to Ukraine's top law enforcement leadership, though details were not immediately provided. He said each priority area of foreign policy would be assigned to an experienced official capable of implementing agreements made at the leadership level.
Separately, a Ukrainian attack in southwest Russia killed one person and wounded three others, including a child, according to regional officials reported by The Hindu. The strike was part of continued Ukrainian bombardment of Russian oil facilities, which has raised concerns about fuel shortages in Russia.
The resignation marks the fourth major governmental reshuffle in Ukraine since the war began, according to Fox News.
