Leadership Change at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank has announced a change in its top leadership. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Nautiyal resigned effective September 1, 2026, citing health reasons, according to a regulatory filing and statements from the bank. The board accepted his early retirement request at a meeting on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Nautiyal had assumed the role on July 1, 2024, for a three-year term. He will remain on leave during the three-month notice period and formally retire from the bank on November 30, 2026.

The bank said it would initiate the process of identifying a permanent successor and submit its recommendations to the Reserve Bank of India in due course. A bank official said during an analyst call following the board meeting that the bank aims to improve succession planning in the future.

Interim CEO Appointment

Executive Director Carol Furtado has been appointed as interim Managing Director and CEO, subject to approval from the Reserve Bank of India. Furtado, who has over three decades of experience in banking, is expected to ensure continuity during the transition. At an analyst call, Furtado expressed confidence in business continuity.

Investor Conference Call

The bank will host a conference call for investors and analysts on September 1, 2026, at 4:00 pm IST to discuss the recent change in the bank's directorate. The call will be led by senior management, including Chairman Banavar Anantharamaiah Prabhakar, Whole Time Executive Director Carol Furtado, Chief Financial Officer Sadananda Balakrishna Kamath, and Chief Credit Officer Ashish Goel. The bank said the call was finalized on shorter notice.

The intimation regarding the board meeting and the resignation was issued under Regulation 30 read with Schedule III of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, and was signed by Sanjeev Barnwal, Company Secretary & Head of Regulatory Framework.

Background and Market Reaction

The leadership change comes at a time when the bank has been working to diversify its business and reduce reliance on unsecured microfinance loans. The Reserve Bank of India in April returned the bank's universal bank application, asking it to diversify its businesses further.

In response to the development, the bank's share price dipped 5.4% to 65.40 on the BSE on Tuesday, with investors seen offloading positions.

Board Acknowledgment

The board acknowledged Nautiyal's significant contributions during his tenure, including expansion of the secured loan book, growth in digital capabilities, and risk management frameworks. The board also confirmed that leadership development initiatives and robust succession planning would ensure operational continuity during the transition.
