Police Register Case Against Sons in Alleged Assault on Parents
Police in Maharashtra's Pune district have registered a case against two brothers for allegedly assaulting their elderly parents with wooden sticks during a dispute over the sale of family land. The incident occurred on the evening of August 30 in the Tarangwadi area near Salim Lawns in Indapur, according to reports based on the complaint.
The complainant, Tukaram Kisan Raut, a 65-year-old farmer from Saraswatinagar in Indapur, stated that he and his wife, Anjana Raut, were walking on the road when their sons, Sanjay Tukaram Raut and Rajendra Tukaram Raut, arrived in a car and confronted them, as reported by multiple outlets. The sons allegedly questioned the couple about the sale of a plot registered in Anjana's name and demanded that the property be returned.
ThePrint, citing police, reported that the couple was taking a walk when their sons, who live separately at Malwadi in Indapur with their families, arrived in a car. The duo allegedly questioned why the land in Anjana's name was sold and then assaulted the couple with wooden sticks, according to the complaint. NewsX also described the dispute as arising after the family's land was sold, with the sons allegedly questioning the decision and demanding the property be taken back.
The alleged assault left Tukaram with injuries to his back, face, thighs, and left shoulder, while Anjana sustained injuries to her right wrist and waist, as detailed in the complaint and reported by Free Press Journal and ThePrint. The accused brothers also allegedly abused the couple and threatened further violence, with ThePrint reporting that police said the brothers threatened to kill the parents if the land deal was not cancelled.
Medical Treatment and Police Action
After the incident, people in the area alerted the police, and the couple was taken for medical treatment. ThePrint reported that the couple was taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Indapur after locals who gathered at the spot informed the police. Tukaram subsequently lodged a complaint at Indapur police station, leading to the registration of a case against Sanjay and Rajendra under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as stated by police.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the property dispute, NewsX reported.

A video purportedly showing the alleged assault has circulated on social media, drawing attention to the case. Reports have noted that the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the video remain subject to police investigation.
Separately, social media posts alleged that a Tata Nexon seen in connection with the incident belonged to Baramati MP Supriya Sule of the NCP-SP. As reported by Free Press Journal, this claim has not been independently established, and a response from Sule and clarification from police regarding the vehicle's ownership are awaited.
