At least two men were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a factory in Hamburg, Germany, on Tuesday evening, according to multiple reports. Police launched a manhunt and the area around the scene on Lagerstrasse, near the city's television tower and trade fair grounds, was cordoned off.

Officers armed with submachine guns secured the area as emergency services were initially unable to enter the building due to concerns that armed perpetrators might still be inside, according to reports from the Daily Express and Daily Mirror. The building houses the meat processing company DELTA Fleisch Hamburg and the boxing stable Universum Boxing, and both premises were being searched by police.

One man was fatally injured inside the complex, while another died in an ambulance. German newspaper Bild reported that the second man was shot in the stomach and the bullet ripped through a major artery. Several ambulances, firefighters, and paramedics were at the scene.

The shooting occurred on the evening of Tuesday, September 1, according to German publication Bild. Hamburg Police have not yet released any theories about the motive. Drones were deployed to locate potentially fleeing suspects, as reported by The Sun.

On Wednesday, tens of thousands of visitors are expected at a neighbouring exhibition hall for a large shipbuilding trade fair, according to The Sun. More than ten police cars were on site.

Elsewhere in Germany, two men exchanged fire on a high street in Duisburg, about 40 miles north of Cologne, according to Bild. More than ten bullets ricocheted across the area, and one man was injured as bullets smashed through windows, cars, and building facades.

The Hamburg shooting comes weeks after a gunman stormed a mother-and-baby centre in Stade, near Hamburg, killing six people: four women and one man died at the scene, and a sixth person died later in hospital. In 2023, a gunman in Hamburg shot six people dead before killing himself at a Jehovah's Witness worship hall. Mass shootings are relatively rare in Germany, but the nation has seen a recent spike in killings, according to The Sun.
