Close Aide Under Growing Scrutiny
Natalie Harp, an executive assistant to President Donald Trump in her mid-30s, has moved from relative obscurity into wider public view in recent weeks. Outlets including Atlanta Black Star, Hindustan Times, The Independent and The Daily Beast have detailed her longstanding proximity to the president, her habit of supplying him with printed materials, and a series of personal letters that underscore an unusually intense professional devotion. Sources differ slightly on her exact age, with most describing her as 35 while The Independent has referred to her as 34.
Harp’s duties place her outside the Oval Office, where she manages day-to-day social media posting and authors Truth Social posts that Trump dictates, according to reporting in The Independent that cited footage from the documentary The Art of the Surge. She has also been photographed running behind Trump’s golf cart caravan. Colleagues long ago nicknamed her the “human printer” for carrying a portable printer and delivering large-format printouts of favorable news articles, polling data, social media posts and other material Trump prefers in physical form. The Daily Beast reported that the role also encompasses performing Google searches and suggesting Truth Social content. Her annual salary is $150,000, according to that outlet.
In letters published by The Daily Beast, Harp wrote to Trump that “You are all that matters to me,” “I want to bring you joy,” and “I don’t want to ever let you down.” She declared herself “unworthy of him” and signed one message “With all my heart, Natalie.” In correspondence addressing the nickname itself, she stated: “I don’t have to be ‘human printer’. I could take time to enjoy good conversation, and still get all my work done at the end of the day.” Atlanta Black Star and Hindustan Times both carried versions of these letters.
New Nickname and the Turkey Security Detail
A more recent label has emerged from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman. Speaking on an MSNOW appearance with Jacob Soboroff, Haberman described Harp as “sort of his Binkie” or “comfort blanket,” a characterization also noted by The Independent and The Daily Beast. Haberman linked the description to Harp’s inclusion among a tiny group of aides selected for a sensitive security transfer.
During a security operation at Ankara airport after this year’s NATO summit, Trump was moved from Air Force One in a catering truck amid an Iranian threat. Harp was among three aides who accompanied him; the others were Walt Nauta and Dan Scavino. Marco Rubio and other officials remained behind as decoys, according to accounts in Hindustan Times and The Independent. Haberman explained that Scavino’s service dates to his teenage years as a golf caddy at a Trump club, while Nauta, a former military valet and co-defendant in a classified-documents case, still functions as a body man carrying a brown briefcase with items such as hair spray and breath mints. Harp’s selection, Haberman said, reflected the comfort Trump takes in her presence.
Observers in Washington have noted that Harp has modeled elements of her personal style after Ivanka Trump, Hindustan Times reported.
Security Clearance Questions and Official Response
Multiple outlets have carried reporting that Harp worked in the White House for more than a year without completing routine security vetting, a situation that alarmed Secret Service and West Wing officials. MS Now reported that she declined to participate in standard procedures for over a year; she later received clearance after Trump intervened, according to that same reporting as relayed by Atlanta Black Star and Hindustan Times.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded directly: “Natalie Harp has a security clearance like everyone else, and she is a loyal and hardworking member of President Trump’s team.” The statement appeared in Hindustan Times coverage.
Earlier Work and Political Role
Accounts differ on when Harp joined Trump’s orbit. The Daily Beast stated she began working for him in 2022 after leaving a role as an anchor and host at One America News. Hindustan Times placed her arrival on the team in 2024. Either way, her access has been publicly praised by Republican senators. Sen. John Barrasso told Fox News that she functioned as “an extra set of eyes and ears for President Trump” and that “Every time I have been with him, she has been close at hand.” The late Sen. Lindsey Graham remarked that if “you want to get something to President Trump, she’s the person to talk to.” Both quotes appeared in Daily Beast reporting.
The Daily Beast further identified Harp, via document metadata first reported by independent journalist Marcy Wheeler, as the author of a 14-page memo Trump sent to the January 6 committee in October 2022 after the panel voted to subpoena him. The metadata showed the file was created on the morning of October 14, 2022, by Harp. The memo opened with the declaration “THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2020 WAS RIGGED AND STOLEN!” and contained unproven claims of fraud; it also described the committee as “highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs.” White House officials have expressed concerns about false or misleading information Harp sometimes feeds Trump, according to The Wall Street Journal as cited by The Daily Beast.
The Independent reported in February that Harp was responsible for posting a racist AI-generated video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes to Trump’s Truth Social account—a claim also carried by Atlanta Black Star citing The Wall Street Journal.
Photographer Encounter and Public Reaction
On August 19 a photographer spotted Harp driving her white Chevy SUV in Washington while headed to the White House. Video obtained by the Daily Mail, as described by Atlanta Black Star, allegedly shows her smiling, filming the cameraman and mouthing “f—k you” before driving away. Social-media commentary quoted in that outlet included one X user writing “The psycho was going to go psycho publicly at some point” and another commenting “WHITE TRASH ….. right on brand.”
Harp’s brother has called her relationship with Trump “unhealthy” and referred to her as the president’s “fan club,” according to The Independent. Author Kurt Andersen, speaking on The Daily Beast Podcast, described Harp as “a rich fictional character” whose motives remain unclear and likened her to “a stalker who got the job.” He added that she appears “more in a certain way unwell than the rest of them” and compared her to characters from Dickens and Orwell. According to reporting in Haberman and Jonathan Swan’s book Regime Change, cited by The Daily Beast, Trump has told allies that Harp is the only aide who loves him as much as his wife and children do.
