Chelsea, who have been active throughout the window, agreed a deal for Lamine Camara to replace the Argentina international, with both deals expected to be officially announced after the 11pm BST deadline.

Tottenham's heavy spending

Tottenham spent the best part of half a billion pounds, including the headline £100 million signing of Sandro Tonali, as the Evening Standard reported. The club also added Chelsea pair Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo to their ranks. Mudryk joined on loan with an option to buy of around £75 million, while Adarabioyo's deal was believed to be in the region of £7 million, according to The i Paper.

Meanwhile, Kevin Danso joined Sunderland on a loan-to-buy deal. The i Paper reported that Tottenham agreed a deal for the centre-back to move to the Stadium of Light on loan with an obligation to buy for £25 million. The club had earlier rebuffed Sunderland's initial approach. Newcastle finalised a £51 million move for Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, with The i Paper reporting there was 'huge excitement' at the club that they had managed to pull off a deal for their 'alpha' target. The move was expected to be their last piece of incoming business of the day.

Manchester United's quiet day

Manchester United finalised Joshua Zirkzee's loan to Juventus, as reported by The i Paper. The club was one of two Premier League sides to not complete any other business on Deadline Day, according to the Evening Standard. Marcus Rashford was reported to be staying at the club despite another summer of speculation, and United were expected to begin contract talks with Bruno Fernandes in the near future.

Other notable moves

Several other deals were completed before the deadline, according to the Evening Standard. Arsenal sold Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona and Fabio Vieira to Hamburg on permanent transfers, while Ethan Nwaneri joined Borussia Dortmund on loan. Aston Villa signed Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for £29 million and Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain for £47 million. Iliman Ndiaye moved from Everton to Manchester City for £65 million, while Jack Grealish joined Everton on loan from City. Looking ahead

Transfer windows for Turkish clubs remain open until September 4, and Saudi clubs have until September 6 to conclude business, the Evening Standard reported. Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr was pushing to join Galatasaray earlier in the summer, while Chelsea's Pedro Neto has been linked with a move to Saudi clubs.

Arsenal, who failed to add to their attack despite interest in Julian Alvarez and Malick Fofana, could still make a late play for the Atletico Madrid forward, according to The i Paper, though Atletico were reported to be refusing to sell him to Barcelona.
