Day 7 Collections See Modest Rise
Yash's 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' continued its theatrical run with a rise in collections on its first Tuesday. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 8.20 crore net in India on Day 7, a 7.2% increase over the Rs 7.65 crore recorded on Day 6. The film registered collections from 12,894 shows across the country.
The Times of India reported that the Telugu version added Rs 60 lakhs to the day's total, the Tamil version contributed Rs 20 lakhs, and the Malayalam version recorded Rs 5 lakhs. The Kannada release collected Rs 1.75 crore net on Tuesday.
India and Worldwide Totals
With the Day 7 earnings, 'Toxic' has collected Rs 229.95 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk, with an India gross collection of Rs 272.80 crore. However, Outlook India reported a slightly different figure, pegging the India net at Rs 229.60 crore and the gross at Rs 274.25 crore.
The film also added approximately Rs 1.50 crore from international markets on Tuesday, bringing its cumulative overseas gross to Rs 40.75 crore. This pushed the worldwide gross to Rs 313.55 crore, as per one estimate, while another source puts the figure at Rs 315 crore.
Occupancy and Hindi Version Performance
The Hindi version recorded an overall occupancy of 23.54% on Day 7, with night shows performing the best at 34.69%. Morning shows recorded 14.15%, followed by 22.38% in the afternoon and 22.92% during evening shows. The Kannada version saw a higher overall occupancy of 27.50%, with afternoon shows reaching 31.23%. The Telugu version recorded 15.83% occupancy, and Tamil shows registered 18.17%.
Despite the steady overall run, the Hindi version has seen a decline from its opening day. Outlook India reported that the Hindi contribution, which stood at Rs 55 crore on the opening day, had fallen to Rs 14 crore by the fifth day.
Critical Reception and Comparison with KGF
'Toxic' has received mixed reactions from audiences and critics since its release. The Times of India's review (ETimes) praised the film's visual scale and production design but raised concerns about its storytelling. The review noted, "The visual splendour is undeniable, and the cinematography, set design and action blocks are all big-screen material." However, it added, "Yet 'Toxic' often mistakes visual grandeur for storytelling depth," and stated that "the film soon begins to feel like a series of Instagram reels stitched together: each segment looks like something and feels like something, but ultimately adds up to very little." The review also noted, "Beneath the violence, sex, swagger and scale, the screenplay needed considerably more substance."
Outlook India also highlighted the mixed reception, noting that the film's treatment by director Geetu Mohandas has generated extensive discussion. The publication compared 'Toxic' with Yash's previous KGF film, which collected Rs 21.80 crore on its opening day and went on to earn Rs 228 crore net in India during its theatrical run.
