Vicario heading to Juventus
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to join Juventus on an initial loan deal, with the Italian club holding an option to make the move permanent for £8.6m, as reported by the Guardian. Vicario has lost his place as Roberto De Zerbi's No. 1 to Antonin Kinsky. The 29-year-old Italy international moved to north London in 2023 for £17.2m and has made almost 120 appearances since then.
Juventus had been linked with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez, but the Guardian reports that the Serie A side decided against a move for the Argentina goalkeeper. The Guardian states that Juventus saw a €10m offer rejected over the weekend and then switched their attention to Vicario. Martínez, who is currently sidelined with a finger injury, had been tipped to leave Villa after the club agreed a deal to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma for around £30m, according to the same report.
Metro.co.uk also reports on the Vicario loan, noting that the Italy goalkeeper has been loaned out to Juventus following Kinsky's promotion to the No. 1 spot. TEAMtalk, meanwhile, lists Vicario among the players who have left Spurs this summer, alongside Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin, and Luka Vuskovic.
Spurs' summer exodus
Vicario becomes the latest in a string of departures from Tottenham this summer. The Guardian names Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Will Lankshear, and Yves Bissouma as players who have left Spurs. TEAMtalk adds Radu Dragusin and Luka Vuskovic to the list and reports that 11 players have now left the club, either permanently or on loan, this season.
The departures come after a heavy spending spree. Metro.co.uk reports that Tottenham have spent over £228m this summer, while TEAMtalk puts the figure at almost £230m. The Guardian reports spending of more than £200m on six new players.
TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr could be the next to leave. Villa are one of the clubs eyeing Sarr, according to a report cited by TEAMtalk, with Brentford also said to be keen and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli having made an enquiry. TEAMtalk reports that £30m has been floated as a potential fee, but Spurs are looking for closer to £50m given Sarr's contract, which runs until 2030. The Guardian also reports that Sarr is wanted by Everton and Nottingham Forest, valuing the Senegal midfielder at £30m.
Kinsky under scrutiny after Brentford defeat
Tottenham opened the new Premier League season with a 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, as reported by Metro.co.uk. Goals from Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt, and Michael Kayode sealed the win for the Bees. Janelt's goal came after Mathias Jensen's shot was parried by goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, according to the same report.
Kinsky's performance drew criticism from former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino, who told talkSPORT, as reported by Metro.co.uk: 'Watching them yesterday was scary and the goalkeeper Kinsky for the second goal, you cannot… I'm watching goalkeepers who can't catch the ball. Catching the ball! He could palm it around the post or whatever but it's, to me, an effort that goalkeepers used to catch.'
Cascarino suggested that De Zerbi should have signed Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa, saying: 'They could have got Emiliano Martinez out of Aston Villa because he looks like he could go. I'd have taken him an experienced goalkeeper, a lot more solid.' He added: 'I wasn't a fan of Vicario. It's been a tough period for Spurs, but Kinsky doesn't look like the answer to me.'
Kinsky was infamously subbed off after just 17 minutes of Spurs' Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid last season, as noted by Metro.co.uk. De Zerbi has brought in Martin Dubravka on a free transfer as cover for Kinsky, according to both Metro.co.uk and the Guardian. Metro.co.uk reports that Dubravka could make his debut on Wednesday against Charlton in the Carabao Cup.
Villa's busy window
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have been active in the transfer market. TEAMtalk reports that Villa have signed six players this summer, including Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Gomes, and confirmed the arrivals of Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki on Wednesday. Morgan Rogers has exited Villa, and Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins are both in talks to leave, according to TEAMtalk.
TEAMtalk also reports that Villa have a £50m Tottenham star in sight, likely to be part of the exodus at Spurs, though the player is not named in the extract. The report cites Caught Offside as the source for Villa's interest in Sarr, and notes that Lucas Bergvall's future at Spurs is to be decided in the coming weeks, with links to Villa but little movement so far.
The Guardian reports that Spurs are keen on signing Savinho from Manchester City. The Brazil forward was not part of the squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, according to the same report. Spurs have also been heavily linked with a move for Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, the Guardian adds.
