A Crowded Free-Agent Market
The summer transfer window has closed, with Premier League clubs having spent more than £3bn in fees, as reported by The Sun. Yet a number of experienced players remain without clubs, available to sign at any time. These free agents range from former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho to ex-Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, offering potential squad solutions for clubs looking to avoid transfer fees.
Jadon Sancho: Seeking a Fresh Start
Jadon Sancho heads the list of available talent. Heavy. reports that Sancho is valued at around $20.5 million (€18 million) based on Transfermarkt estimates, making him the most valuable unattached player on the market. Sancho’s career has stalled since his time at Manchester United, which included a public fallout with Erik ten Hag, and loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa did little to rebuild his value — reportedly dropping roughly 80% since his original transfer fee. Still just 26, Sancho has reportedly expressed a desire to play abroad rather than remain in the Premier League. The Sun adds that Sancho has found himself without a club since leaving Manchester United, with reports claiming he is set to join Brazilian side Palmeiras.
Veteran Midfielders and Defenders
Paul Pogba, who cost Manchester United a then-world record £89 million in 2016, has been released aged 33 after just six appearances for Monaco, according to The Sun. Pogba mutually terminated his contract with the Ligue 1 side after struggling with fitness, as reported by Heavy. The Sun also notes that Oleksandr Zinchenko, 29, left Arsenal for Ajax in February following a loan at Nottingham Forest, but managed just 20 minutes of action for Ajax before suffering a knee ligament injury, with Ajax subsequently declining their option to extend his deal.
Renato Sanches officially became a free agent after Paris Saint-Germain terminated his contract, according to both Heavy. and The Sun. Heavy. reports that Sanches endured 21 separate injuries and over 500 days on the sidelines during his four-year spell at PSG, managing just 27 appearances, with loan spells at Roma, Benfica, and Panathinaikos. His market value has fallen from roughly $32 million (€28 million when he arrived in Paris to just $2.3 million (€2 million), per Heavy. Heavy. also notes that Sanches has a 2016 European Championship medal and four Bundesliga titles, and has reportedly turned down interest from Saudi Arabia and MLS.
Diogo Leite, a 27-year-old center-back, left Union Berlin after a four-year spell, as described by Heavy. as reliable in the air and comfortable on the ball, with experience in Portugal and Germany. Yves Bissouma leaves Tottenham after a spell that started strong under Ange Postecoglou but faded due to injuries and consistency issues, making just 11 Premier League appearances last season, according to Heavy. Fulham is among the clubs credited with interest in Bissouma. The Sun adds that Bissouma was released by Tottenham at the end of last season.

Reiss Nelson’s contract with Arsenal was mutually terminated a year early after a proposed $4 million (£3 million) move to West Ham fell through, ending an 18-year association with the club, having joined at age eight.
The Sun reports that several other high-profile players are available: Dani Carvajal and David Alaba were both released by Real Madrid at the end of last season; Karim Benzema left Al-Hilal, possibly heading toward retirement; Riyad Mahrez left Al-Ahli after three years; and Mauro Icardi left Galatasaray following 77 goals in 134 appearances.
