A Personal Loss and a Postponed Show
Actor-comedian Rajiv Thakur, known to many as Raju on The Kapil Sharma Show, is mourning the death of his father, several reports confirm. The loss came just as Rajiv was due to perform at an event in Indore alongside his co-star and friend Krushna Abhishek, leading to the postponement of the show.
Krushna Abhishek, who had already arrived in Indore for the event, broke the news in a video shared by the event management company. In the clip, he said, was “just as we were taking off for Indore, Rajiv Thakur, who was supposed to perform with me in Indore tomorrow, lost his father.”
Expressing his condolences, Krushna added: “This is very sad news for him, me and the entire fraternity.” He appealed to ticket holders to bear with the change in plans, confirming that the event was being rescheduled. The Times of India reported that Krushna, who was already at the venue, informed fans about the situation, and that Rajiv would be with his family following the demise.
Organisers’ Statement and Refunds
The event organisers separately released a statement, which several outlets quoted, reading: “With a heavy heart, we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience caused to everyone who booked tickets for the event. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have decided to postpone the event. We will be refunding the full ticket amount to everyone who has booked their seats. We promise to come back soon with new dates and reschedule this event.” A new date has not yet been announced, according to the Free Press Journal.
The cause of death has not been disclosed, as reported by Hindustan Times and Times Now. Rajiv has not yet issued a public statement about his father’s passing, multiple reports noted.
A Life in Comedy and a Private Family Bond
Rajiv Thakur, a household name from his long-running role on The Kapil Sharma Show, began his comedy career in Amritsar alongside Kapil Sharma and became a finalist on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3, according to Hindustan Times. He has also appeared in several films and web shows, including IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Thug Life, Tara Mira, Zindagi Zindabaad, and Kanjoos Majnu Kharchili Laila, the Free Press Journal reported.
While Rajiv has largely kept his family life private, he has shared moments with his father on social media. In December 2025, he organised a lavish celebration for his parents’ 70th wedding anniversary, and last year he wished his father on his birthday with a heartfelt post, writing, “Jo aish aapke 10 rs ki woh apne kamaye lakh se bhi nahi hoti daddy ji…” (the joy from your 10 rupees is not something my earned lakhs can match, daddy ji).
The news has saddened fans and the comedy fraternity, with well-wishers extending condolences to Rajiv and his family during this time.
