From High Street to Supermarket

For more than half a century, Paperchase was a fixture of the British high street, its colourful shops drawing customers in for quirky stationery and greeting cards. At its peak in the 2000s, the brand was a go-to destination for distinctive pens, notebooks and accessories.

That chapter came to an abrupt end in 2023, when all 106 Paperchase outlets in the UK shut their doors after the firm entered administration. The independent shops disappeared, but the brand itself did not vanish entirely: it found a new home within Tesco stores, as reported by the Derby Telegraph, Leicester Mercury and Nottinghamshire Live.

The supermarket chain introduced Paperchase near the close of 2023, stocking the merchandise the brand is known for — fluffy notepads, keyrings, pens, bags and highlighters. Now, Tesco is expanding that range with a new collection aimed at young shoppers.

The Chibi Club Collection

Tesco has launched the Chibi Club as part of its back-to-school range for 2026. The collection introduces what the supermarket describes as "a playful crew of quirky characters": capybara Noko Noko, feline Mochi, Zoomi the crocodile, Poko Pup and Flumple the llama, the latter complete with iridescent wings and a unicorn horn.

Each character features across a variety of items, including rucksacks, notebooks, pencil cases and stationery supplies. Tesco highlights the individual qualities of each character, describing the capybara as "the perfect blend of brains and laid-back charm," making the characters "relatable, lovable and collectable."

Prices start at £4 for character pens, while backpacks retail at up to £20.

Expansion and Other Ranges

The Paperchase brand is set to roll out across additional Tesco stores, with further new Chibi Club products already planned for 2027, according to the three outlets.

Alongside Chibi Club, Tesco offers other Paperchase-themed collections, including the Tropic Like It's Hot range, which features a journal, a magnetic closure notebook, a bag and a cheetah vase.

Tesco's Broader Stationery Offering

The supermarket's stationery aisles also include own-brand products, Sharpie, BiC and Staedtler, as well as Harry Potter-themed items, many of which are available at half price for Clubcard holders.

Brand's Place in Shoppers' Lives

A Tesco spokesperson said: "Paperchase has been part of life's big and small moments for generations of shoppers." The spokesperson's comments were quoted by the Derby Telegraph, Leicester Mercury and Nottinghamshire Live, which positioned the brand's revival in Tesco as a continuation of its legacy, even as its physical high street presence remains a thing of the past.
