BRS releases 'chargesheet' against Congress government
Hyderabad, September 2 – Telangana's main opposition party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Wednesday released a 'chargesheet' against the Congress government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, marking the completion of 1,000 days in power.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, flanked by party leaders, presented the document at Telangana Bhavan, accusing the government of "lies and corruption" and describing its tenure as "1,000 days of deceitful governance," as reported by ANI. He called the period a "flop" and a "criminal waste," alleging "economic devastation, social crisis, and cultural betrayal."
"If there is any government in India today that is an utter flop across all sectors, it is the Congress government in Telangana," Rao said, according to an ANI report. "They promised to show heaven in 100 days; they claimed they would create a paradise within 100 days. But for 1000 days, they are showing the people of Telangana a daily living hell."
Allegations of unfulfilled promises
The chargesheet, as detailed by ANI and Lokmat Times, lists a series of unfulfilled election pledges. The BRS claimed that the promise of 2 lakh jobs in the first year has not been met even after 1,000 days. The party also alleged that the government failed to deliver on its Mahalaxmi scheme promise of Rs 2,500 per woman, which was meant to make one crore women millionaires and include gold coins.
Other accusations include cheating students with a Rs 5 lakh education assurance card, not paying gas subsidy money, and defrauding farmers and tenant farmers on promises of Rs 15,000 per acre and Rs 12,000 for agricultural labourers, along with a Rs 2 lakh loan waiver. The BRS also alleged that the government did not fulfil its commitment of Rs 50,000 crore in related schemes.
Rao further accused the government of failing on all fronts, saying that top Congress leaders – including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sonia Gandhi – had guaranteed the execution of all promises within 100 days, but "not a single promise has been fully implemented" even after 1,000 days, as reported by Lokmat Times.
Economic and administrative accusations
The BRS chargesheet also targets the state's financial management. The party claimed that Telangana's financial position had weakened under the Congress government and that the state was under around Rs 5 lakh crore of debt, according to ANI. Rao alleged that the government was running a "30% commission racket" under the guise of Section 22-A and the prohibited property list, manipulating private and government lands across 1.20 crore acres, as per Lokmat Times.
Rao likened the ruling dispensation to a story of 'Ali Baba and 40 Thieves', stating that the only conflict among the Chief Minister and his ministers was over the division of "looted public funds," as reported by Lokmat Times. He also accused the government of filing illegal cases against protesting youth and using lathi charges, and alleged a "destruction of the education sector," with fee reimbursement arrears exceeding Rs 12,000 crore.
Statewide campaign and upcoming Assembly session
Announcing a 7-day intense outreach programme across all 119 constituencies, Rao said the BRS would take its grievances to the people through dedicated sessions and protests alongside farmers, women, youth, and welfare beneficiaries. He asserted that the opposition would "aggressively corner the government" in the upcoming Assembly session over unfulfilled declarations, economic mismanagement, and a deteriorating law and order situation, as per Lokmat Times.
The BRS's chargesheet comes as the Congress government completed 1,000 days in power on Tuesday, a milestone the ruling party is celebrating.
Congress defends its record
In response, Congress leader Motha Rohit hailed the Revanth Reddy-led government, stating that the party had delivered development to the state. Citing an example, he said the Moosarambagh flyover in Amberpet began under the previous Kiran Kumar Reddy government but was halted under the BRS government, and was finally inaugurated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, according to ANI.
