Symbiotec Pharmalab lists flat in muted debut, stock later climbs after weak open

Shares of pharma and biotech company Symbiotec Pharmalab Ltd began trading on the stock exchanges on Tuesday with a muted debut, opening nearly 1% lower on the BSE and at par on the NSE against the issue price of ₹988.

On the BSE, the stock opened at ₹978.20, down 0.99% from the issue price. However, by later trade it recovered to ₹1,074.05, up 8.70%. On the NSE, the shares listed unchanged at ₹988 and later climbed 9.65% to ₹1,083.40.

The listing was well below grey market expectations, which had indicated a listing gain of around 18-19% for IPO investors, according to Business Standard.

IPO details and subscription

The initial public offering of Symbiotec Pharmalab was subscribed 71.26 times, with bids for 93,52,49,700 shares against 1,31,24,929 shares on offer, as reported by Business Standard. The category for qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) received 172.03 times subscription, the non-institutional investor (NII) portion was subscribed 73.63 times, and the retail investor portion received 12.96 times subscription.

The IPO had a price band of ₹938-988 per equity share, valuing the company around ₹6,350 crore at the upper limit. The company's market capitalisation stood at ₹6,285.53 crore, according to BSE data.

The IPO was a combination of a fresh issue of shares worth up to ₹150 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) component amounting to ₹1,607 crore. As part of the OFS, promoter Satwani Holdings LLP and investors Rosewood Investments and India Business Excellence Fund III will offload shares.

Proceeds from the fresh issue will be used for debt payment and general corporate purposes, the company said.
