Suzlon expands Andhra footprint with 1,325 MW wind projects
Suzlon Group has announced plans to develop 1,325 MW of new wind projects in the Rayadurg constituency of Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district, as part of a planned ₹10,000-crore wind energy expansion in the region. The projects, which involve clean energy companies including Waaree Energy and Tata Power, are expected to create around 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, according to a company statement.
The announcement was made on Monday, August 24, as the wind turbine maker looks to significantly expand its presence in the state. The new projects are coming up at Govindawada, as reported by The Hindu Business Line, and build on Suzlon's existing footprint of more than 1,700 MW of installed wind capacity in Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the expansion, Andhra Pradesh Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to inaugurate Suzlon's new S144 wind blades at Huliker village in Kanekallu mandal on August 25. The company has been operating in the state since 2004, with Anantapur district serving as its primary operational and manufacturing base in Andhra Pradesh.
Suzlon's rotor blade manufacturing facility at Ippuru in Kuderu mandal is among its key manufacturing facilities, accounting for around 40% of the company's blade production, with an annual production capacity equivalent to 1,260 MW. The facility supports wind projects in partnership with energy companies including Tata Power, and supplies blade components for large-scale wind energy developments.
The company has invested around ₹12,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh so far, including its blade manufacturing operations in Anantapur. Suzlon's operations in the state have generated employment for around 2,200 people, according to the company. The Hindu notes that Suzlon operates a rotor blade unit in Uravakonda constituency and has been executing wind energy projects in collaboration with companies like Tata Power. Green skills programme and workforce development
Alongside manufacturing and project installations, the Andhra Pradesh government and Suzlon are running a joint green skills training initiative to build local technical capacity for the renewable sector, according to The Hindu Business Line. Under this framework, dedicated Wind Energy Learning Centres operate in Vijayawada and Uravakonda to train approximately 12,000 young professionals, with women comprising nearly 25% of the total enrolled candidates. Suzlon delivered a record 2,456 MW in India during FY26, ending the year with an order book of 5.9 GW and annual manufacturing capacity of 4.5 GW across 15 locations.
For Q1FY27, Suzlon Energy reported a 6% year-on-year decline in net profit to ₹305 crore, while revenue increased 22% to ₹3,829 crore. EBITDA remained largely flat at ₹595 crore, with the EBITDA margin narrowing to 15.5%. Deliveries rose 14% year-on-year to 506 MW, and commissioning more than doubled to 269 MW. The company's order book stood at 6.1 GW at the end of June.
Suzlon's shares ended 0.17% higher at ₹46.79 on Monday, though the stock has declined about 11% so far this year, according to CNBC TV18.
