Strive Expands Bitcoin Treasury
Strive, a publicly traded asset manager and Bitcoin treasury company, added 1,800 Bitcoin to its holdings last week in a purchase worth approximately $143 million. The company acquired the Bitcoin between Aug. 24 and Aug. 28, paying an average price of $79,431 per coin, including fees and expenses, CEO Matt Cole confirmed on Monday.
The purchase lifted Strive's total holdings to 23,156 Bitcoin, up from 21,356 BTC a week earlier. At the reference price cited in the company's disclosure, the stash is valued at roughly $1.76 billion, according to a company disclosure cited by Decrypt.
Adam Livingston, an adviser to Saturn Credit, noted that the latest purchase increased Strive's Bitcoin holdings by roughly 8.4% in just five business days. The acquisition also pushed Strive past Bullish, the crypto exchange and digital asset infrastructure company, to become the fifth-largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin, according to industry data cited by Cointelegraph.
Background and Strategy
Strive trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker ASST following its merger with Asset Entities earlier this year. The firm was initially co-founded by Vivek Ramaswamy, the entrepreneur turned politician. Strive recently added $81 million in Bitcoin alongside a share sale, part of a steady cadence of buying as it builds out its treasury, according to Decrypt.
Strive is among a wave of public companies that have adopted Bitcoin treasury strategies, raising capital to accumulate the asset and tie their fortunes to its price. The model, pioneered by Michael Saylor's Strategy, has drawn a crowded field of imitators over the past year, though the approach carries risk given Bitcoin's volatility. Strive's average purchase price on the new tranche sits just above current levels, leaving the latest buy roughly break-even for now, according to Decrypt.
Broader Market Context
The timing of Strive's purchase lines up with renewed buying across the sector as Bitcoin has rallied. Bitcoin traded around $78,600 on Monday, off slightly on the day but on track to close August with a gain of more than 24%, its strongest month since 2017, according to Decrypt.
Strategy, the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, this week broke a roughly two-month pause with a $370 million purchase, its first since June. The company acquired 4,603 Bitcoin at an average price of $80,318, lifting its holdings back above 845,000 BTC following four Bitcoin sales since May, according to Cointelegraph and Decrypt.
Tom Lee's Bitmine, meanwhile, made its largest Ethereum purchase since June, underscoring how treasury firms have leaned back into accumulation as prices recovered, according to Decrypt.
The broader recovery in Bitcoin and the wider digital asset market began on Aug. 19, when the US Treasury Department announced plans to double the size of certain long-term bond buybacks. The move helped push Treasury yields lower and fueled a rebound in risk assets, with Bitcoin rallying more than 23% to a recent high above $81,000, as reported by Cointelegraph.
