SpaceX has posted four supply chain jobs in Bengaluru, at least three of them tied to its Starlink satellite internet unit, in what appears to be the company’s first technical hiring in India. The listings, visible on SpaceX’s careers page as of August 23, signal a shift from the finance and compliance roles the company advertised in India in late 2025 to hands-on engineering work.

The roles include senior supplier development engineers for injection moulding and RF integration, a supplier development engineer and a global supply manager. Two of the four positions were added as recently as Saturday. Of nineteen international openings on SpaceX’s careers board, four are in Bengaluru.

The move comes as Starlink’s commercial launch in India remains blocked by pending security clearances, with no date yet announced. The freeze on approvals has been in place since June, following concerns raised by security agencies under India’s Ministry of Home Affairs about the use of Starlink terminals during the West Asia conflict in a country where the service holds no licence.

The RF integration posting outlines the role’s scope: it focuses on quality and scalability of user terminal manufacturing—the consumer dish rather than satellites—at SpaceX’s global suppliers. The engineer would develop RF test cases and calibration procedures for Starlink terminals at external suppliers, conduct root cause analysis on yield problems, and feed manufacturability input back to design teams. SpaceX is asking for an electrical or electronics engineering degree and at least five years’ experience with antennas or RF systems, with high-volume consumer electronics experience preferred.

Only two of the four listings carry “Starlink” in the title. The RF integration posting does not, but its body text describes work on Starlink user terminals, indicating the cluster sits with the satellite broadband business rather than the launch side. The Bengaluru role is based in Bangalore and requires up to 50% travel to suppliers in Southeast Asia. SpaceX runs the same supplier development function for Starlink in Singapore and Hanoi.

A job posting for the Senior Supplier Development Engineer (Injection Molding) position states that SpaceX is building a low-latency, broadband internet system to meet consumer needs globally, with Starlink aiming to provide fast and reliable internet to populations with little to no connectivity.

The hiring push follows a turbulent period for Starlink’s India entry. SpaceX registered Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited in India in November 2021, with Sanjay Bhargava as country director. Starlink initially targeted 200,000 terminals in India by the end of 2022, but the government pulled it up for taking pre-orders without a licence, and deposits were refunded.

In March 2025, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio each signed distribution agreements with SpaceX. On June 6, the Department of Telecommunications granted Starlink a Unified Licence with GMPCS authorisation, making it the third such licensee after Eutelone OneWeb and the Jio satellite venture. IN-SPACe authorised Starlink’s Gen 1 constellation on July 8, covering 4,408 satellites with reported capacity of roughly 600 Gbps over India, valid for five years. Trial spectrum followed in early September, allowing Starlink to build ground infrastructure and demonstrate security compliance, including network traffic and monitoring systems located inside India, security clearance for foreign nationals, and regular reporting to law enforcement agencies.

But the commercial launch has been stuck since June, when Bloomberg reported that security agencies had withheld final clearances. The trigger was the use of Starlink terminals during the West Asia conflict in a country where the service holds no licence. The freeze raised a question in New Delhi about whether a US-owned operator can be controlled during periods of geopolitical tension if a foreign government issues conflicting demands.

The freeze landed days before SpaceX priced its Nasdaq listing and has slowed the wider satcom sector. The Department of Telecommunications has a satellite spectrum pricing framework ready, but its passage to Cabinet has been held up.

Despite the regulatory impasse, SpaceX has been moving ahead on the ground. On August 20, Starlink filed a fresh application with IN-SPACe for its second-generation constellation of roughly 30,000 satellites operating between 340 and 615 km. An earlier Gen 2 application was turned down on frequency band and feature compliance grounds. On August 21, Elon Musk made a public statement on X about serving rural India.

In October, Starlink signed a five-year lease on a 1,294 sq ft office at the Boomerang complex in Chandivali, Mumbai, at ₹3.52 lakh a month. Maharashtra became the first Indian state to sign an MoU with Starlink for rural connectivity in November. In December, residential pricing briefly appeared on Starlink’s India website at ₹8,600 a month with a ₹34,000 kit, which the company later attributed to an error. Around the same time, Starlink took a 50-seater managed office at Delhi’s World Trade Centre in Nauroji Nagar.
