CM Yadav Inspects Shri Ram Raja Lok Development in Orchha
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday inspected the ongoing construction and development works at the Shri Ram Raja Lok in Orchha, Niwari district, and reviewed progress with officials. He issued directives to complete all works within the stipulated timeline while maintaining quality, as reported by ANI and Lokmat Times.
CM Yadav made the remarks while interacting with media on the second and concluding day of the state BJP's executive committee meeting, according to Lokmat Times.
Vision for Religious Tourism
The Chief Minister said the Shri Ram Raja Lok, being developed with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, is intended as a centre for religious tourism. He said the project would give a "major boost" to Orchha's religious significance and help establish it as a prominent pilgrimage destination for devotees from India and abroad.
Drawing a parallel to the Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, CM Yadav said, "After the construction of Shri Mahakal Mahalok, there has been a major change in Ujjain's economy and a significant increase in the number of devotees. In the same manner, major pilgrimage centres of Madhya Pradesh will be developed comprehensively, promoting religious tourism and creating new employment opportunities at the local level."
He said the state government was focusing on the comprehensive development of major pilgrimage centres, with religious tourism aimed at strengthening local economies and generating employment.
Heritage and Restoration Efforts
CM Yadav highlighted Orchha's religious importance centred around the revered Shri Ram Raja Temple, where Lord Ram is worshipped as the king. He said the government was working to preserve the town's centuries-old cultural and architectural heritage and connect future generations with it.
"Shri Ram Raja Temple is part of our historical and cultural heritage. The architecture created by the rulers here is a living example of our rich legacy. The old structures and buildings are being revived using the same materials that were originally used in their construction so that their original form is preserved," he said, as quoted by Lokmat Times.
The Chief Minister said the glorious past of Raja Ram Lok, along with the temples dedicated to Lord Ram and the residences built by the rulers of that time, represents remarkable examples of architecture. He added that these ancient structures were designed to remain warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather, even before the advent of air-conditioning.
The government is engaging skilled craftsmen for restoration and reconstruction work, with traditional construction techniques used wherever possible, he said. ANI reported that CM Yadav stressed the restoration is being carried out using the same type of materials that were originally used in their construction.
Orchha's Historical Significance
CM Yadav said Orchha in Bundelkhand, once the capital of the Bundela rulers, has a glorious heritage of historic structures and old buildings, including forts and palaces. He said the government is working to bring the glorious past of Bundelkhand alive by showcasing these structures.
"While enhancing the importance of our pilgrimage sites, we are also working to showcase the glorious past of our rulers," he said.
The development of Orchha through the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation would further strengthen the town's religious and heritage tourism potential, he added.
