Shokz has unveiled two new open-ear earbuds aimed at athletes and fitness enthusiasts: the OpenFit Air 2 and the OpenRun Air 2. The devices were announced via a press release on August 24, with availability set for August 27. Both models are priced at $129, according to Android Central, while Gizmodo lists the OpenFit Air 2 at $130.

OpenFit Air 2: A Lighter Design

The OpenFit Air 2 is positioned as the "lightest earhook product in Shokz history," weighing in at 7.2g per earbud. This is notably lighter than comparable models from other brands—Gizmodo notes that Nothing's Ear Open weigh 8.1g per bud and Shokz's own OpenFit Pro weigh 12.3g.

The charging case has also been slimmed down. Android Central reports the case is approximately 10.5% smaller and lighter than the first generation, while Gizmodo says it is "more than 10% slimmer." For open-ear products, which typically have bulkier cases due to the shape of the earbuds, this reduction is a significant improvement.

Audio performance gets a boost with Shokz's Bassphere technology, which is designed to deliver more low-end sound—a common weakness in open-ear designs. Gizmodo, which tested the technology on the OpenDots 2, says "it does make a difference." The OpenFit Air 2 also features a 30-degree angled speaker and DirectPitch technology to direct sound into the ear and prevent audio leakage, as reported by Android Central.

Battery life is rated at 8 hours per charge, with the charging case providing up to 36 hours of total playback, according to Android Central. A quick 10-minute charge delivers up to 3 hours of listening. The earbuds are IP55 rated for sweat and water resistance, a detail noted by Gizmodo.

Users can customize the sound via the Shokz App, which offers custom EQ profiles and four preset modes, as detailed by Android Central. The OpenFit Air 2 is available in black, white, and Ice Blue.

One notable omission: the OpenFit Air 2 does not include active noise cancellation or any form of noise reduction. Gizmodo points out that this feature remains exclusive to the more expensive $250 OpenFit Pro.

OpenRun Air 2: Smaller and Sturdier

For those who prefer bone-conduction earbuds, Shokz also announced the OpenRun Air 2 (referred to by Gizmodo as the OpenRun 2). This model is 9% smaller than its predecessor and weighs 26.4g, according to Android Central. The design includes unibody ear hooks and a neckband for stability during movement.

The OpenRun Air 2 uses a PremiumPitch 3.0 driver and offers a 10-hour battery life on a full charge. A quick 5-minute charge provides up to 2 hours of listening, as reported by Android Central. Physical buttons and a microphone with AI-powered noise reduction for calls are also included, along with Shokz App support.

The device has an IP67 rating, making it more dust- and water-resistant than the OpenFit Air 2's IP55 rating. It comes in Standard and Mini sizes, available in black and Ice Blue, at a price of $129.

Bone-conduction earbuds are preferred by runners and other athletes because they allow you to hear your surroundings while listening to audio, a point highlighted by Gizmodo.

Both products are set to hit the market on August 27.
