Mayor Todd Anderson Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Sheldahl Mayor Todd Anderson was the motorcyclist killed in a crash near Polk City on Saturday evening, the Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the 10,000 block of Iowa 141, and was described as a single-vehicle crash.

The small city, located about 12 miles north of Ankeny, announced Anderson's death on its Facebook page on Sunday. City clerk Rachel Wicks made the post, which did not specify the location of the crash.

Mayor Pro Tem Kyle Greenwood will serve as acting mayor until a successor is appointed for Anderson, who was elected in 2025.

The city's post paid tribute to Anderson, saying: "Mayor Anderson was a dedicated public servant who led our community with integrity, passion, and an unwavering commitment to the residents of Sheldahl. His leadership and his presence in our community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him."

The sheriff's office also expressed condolences in a news release, stating: "Our thoughts are with Mayor Anderson's family, friends, and the Sheldahl community."
