New Additions to the Rodeo Drama
Starz has announced five new series regulars for its upcoming Black rodeo drama set in Southeast Texas. Shannon Wallace ("Diarra From Detroit," "Beauty in Black"), Curtiss Cook ("The Chi," "House of Cards"), Lauren E. Banks ("Lawmen: Bass Reeves," "City on a Hill"), Liv Symone ("Power Book III: Raising Kanan," "Michael"), and Jason Dirden ("Bosch: Legacy," "Power Book III: Raising Kanan") will join the previously announced cast.
The series, which remains untitled, received an eight-episode order in April, as reported by Variety. According to the network's logline, the drama unfolds in Southeast Texas, where "rodeo isn't just what you do – it's who you are." The story centers on three siblings bound by the legacy their mother built and the unfinished business their father left behind. The show is described as "infused with hip hop swagger and country soul."
Character Details
Wallace will play Sebastian Clarke, described as "a former bull-riding champion whose career ended after a near-fatal arena accident." Deadline adds that Sebastian is recently divorced and transformed the family rodeo into one of East Texas' premier regional showcases, though his compulsive risk-taking in business, gambling, and love often undermines his ambitions.
Cook takes on the role of Elias Clarke, "the Clarke siblings' estranged father and co-founder of the family rodeo who returns from prison to earn back his children's trust." According to Deadline, Elias is described as handsome, charming, and quietly persuasive, with a past that has left a stain on the family legacy.
Banks will play Wynter, described as "Sebastian's ex-wife who is ready to finally do things for herself." Deadline further notes that Wynter is the mother and coach to her son Driver and is newly divorced, exploring life outside the arena.
Symone portrays Jojo Calhoun, "the younger sister to local bull riding star Julius and a talented rapper." Deadline adds that Jojo is a talented barrel racer who feels ostracized by traditional women riders, but is determined to become the biggest artist to ever come out of Trinity City.
Dirden will play Greg Reagan, "a respected District Court judge and husband to Anaya who has a carefully hidden past." Deadline describes Greg as supportive and charming, fiercely protective of his wife, with a carefully buried past.
Existing Cast and Production Team
The new additions join DeWanda Wise as Anaya Clarke-Reagan, Tian Richards as Rodney Clarke, and Marcus Mitchell as Julius Calhoun. The names of the actors and their roles were confirmed by both Deadline and Variety.
Kirk A. Moore serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Mark Johnson, Myki Bajaj, Tony Hernandez, Elise Henderson, and Lilly Burns, as reported by both outlets. For Starz, Giovanna Desselle (vice president of original programming) and Christina Jokanovich (senior vice president of original programming) oversee the series.
Variety also noted that this drama is Starz's second self-owned series following its 2025 spin-off from Lionsgate, with the other being "Fightland," which premiered July 31.
