A Chart-Topping Anthem

Shakira and Burna Boy's official FIFA World Cup anthem, "Dai Dai," is showing no signs of slowing down more than a month after the tournament's conclusion. The track, released in May just two months before the World Cup kicked off, has surged back to the top of Spotify's Global chart, according to The News International. It also holds strong on Billboard's rankings, leading the Billboard Global 200 for a sixth week and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for a ninth week, as reported by Billboard.

The song has made history as the first World Cup anthem to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart dated July 4, Billboard notes. It also entered the Official Physical Singles chart at No. 79, marking Shakira's first entry on that chart in 15 years, according to The News International.

A Global Sound with a Philanthropic Mission

"Dai Dai" blends Afrobeats with dance-pop, world beats, and reggaetón, bridging the musical styles of the Nigerian and Colombian stars, as described by Billboard. The official video features football stars alongside Shakira, Burna Boy, and the Ghetto Kids. A Spanish version of the song was released weeks after the World Cup final, Billboard reports.

All royalties from the song are donated to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which provides education and soccer resources to children worldwide, both outlets confirm. Shakira, speaking to People, said: "It's a message for every child who's been told that their dream is too big. And to remind us that every champion started out as a kid who perhaps went through hardship and struggles, but there was someone that believed in them, and that's why they didn't give up."

Behind the Success

Esteban Geller, Sony Music U.S. Latin's general manager, told Billboard that the song's success stemmed from audience connection rather than a single factor. "Ultimately, people connected with the song," Geller said. "The FIFA World Cup gave it an extraordinary platform, but the audience is what turned that opportunity into a global success." He also elaborated on the creative process, noting that conversations with FIFA had been in the works well in advance, partly due to Shakira's long-standing relationship with Global Citizen and her commitment to education.

Continued Momentum

The song's longevity is notable, with both outlets emphasizing its sustained popularity. The News International hailed Shakira as the 'queen of charts,' while Billboard described the track as an "infectious" force. As Spain was crowned 2026 World Cup champions, "Dai Dai" continues to dominate, with Billboard noting it remains the biggest song in the world. The Spanish version's release suggests the anthem's reach is expanding even further.
