Injury Report: Two Added to Injured Reserve

The New Orleans Saints have placed running back Ty Chandler and tight end Moliki Matavao on injured reserve, both with knee injuries, as reported by the Baton Rouge Advocate and Sports Illustrated. Both players were injured during the Saints' preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week. This brings the number of Saints players placed on IR this week to three, with defensive back Rejzohn Wright having been placed on the list Monday, according to the Advocate. They join defensive lineman Bryan Bresee and offensive guard Dillon Radunz, who both suffered ACL injuries early in camp.

Players placed on injured reserve before the roster is trimmed to 53 are not eligible to return for the rest of the season.

Chandler, who had shown explosive ability during camp, returned the opening kick of the Saints' first preseason game 86 yards to set up a touchdown. Matavao, a seventh-round pick in last year's draft, had made the most of his practice squad time in 2025, according to coach Kellen Moore. He caught three passes for 34 yards against the Rams before being injured.

Kellen Moore's Announcement and the Latest on the Injury Report

Saints head coach Kellen Moore announced that Chandler would be out for the year due to a serious knee injury sustained in the Rams game. At the time, Moore said the team was still gaining information on the injuries to Matavao and running back Devin Neal. However, about 45 minutes later, the Saints announced that Matavao would join Chandler on injured reserve.

Wide receivers Bub Means and Ronnie Bell both participated in practice in a limited capacity after not being in attendance the previous day.

Zamir White's First Day with the Team

New running back Zamir White had his first practice on Tuesday, wearing No. 33 in black at the Saints' Indoor Training Facility. White was acquired from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for linebacker Deion Jones, a trade that was announced Monday. White, previously with the Las Vegas Raiders for four seasons, started nine of 45 games he played there, and signed with the 49ers during the offseason. The former Georgia Bulldog, nicknamed "Zeus," said that he's adapting well to his new team. "So far, so good," he said when asked how he was acclimating. "We're just learning. The guys are great. The coaches are cool. I love it so far. … The other guys are great. We've been talking a lot, they're teaching me stuff."

White described his whirlwind transition from his previous team, saying, "Get up and go. I was done with practice, I went home, chilled, showered, laid down, nap. I got up and got the call. They called me around 7:30, and my flight was at 10:30. I got on the plane, some shirts in a bag, some shorts, hit the road." White admitted he was initially "shocked" by the trade, but his first thought about heading to New Orleans was: "Cool man. Let's go to work." He also said he appreciates the style of ball New Orleans runs: "Just downhill, physical ball, hard-nosed football." For White, the move is meaningful: "It means the world to me, and it's a blessing."

During his first practice, White took reps with the team in helmets and shorts on Tuesday. He arrived Monday morning and was announced as the newest halfback on Monday.

Practice Notes and Observations

In 11-on-11 periods, the first-team offense went against the second-team defense. Quarterback Tyler Shough took first-team reps, while Spencer Rattler and Zach Wilson rotated with the second team. Jalen Cropper had five catches for 97 yards in the last two games, and his snaps with the second team increased due to injuries. Shough connected with Devaughn Vele for a first down in tight coverage during the second session. Rattler had three incompletions, including an underthrown ball to Barion Brown, but also completed a pass to Treyton Welch. Chris Olave appeared to get up gingerly after a defensive pass interference, but Moore said he had the wind knocked out of him.
