Rockstar responds to leaks
Rockstar Games released a statement on Wednesday addressing the recent gameplay leaks for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. The company said the leaks have been "heartbreaking" for the development team, who had not yet intended to show the footage. Despite the setback, the statement said everyone involved remains "very excited" about an extended look at the game, which will premiere Thursday at 3 p.m. ET on Netflix. The extended look is expected to be the most substantial official showcase of GTA VI to date, coming as the game is less than three months from its scheduled release.
The leaks and the leaker
Over the past week, an anonymous leaker using the online name Cyberleek has been posting gameplay clips from the unreleased game. On Wednesday, shortly after Rockstar's statement, Cyberleek released clips from the game's prologue, featuring the playable character Lucia Caminos, while also promising to release more footage of her in the near future.
The prologue clips, which run four and a half minutes and were shared via the messaging platform Telegram, include a flashback of Caminos in prison. As Mashable points out, this specific scene isn't a spoiler, since Caminos previously appeared in an orange jumpsuit both in the original trailer released two years ago and in an official image from Rockstar. However, Cyberleek's video reportedly reveals more plot specifics about the character's time in and out of prison, prompting warnings for those seeking to avoid spoilers.
Meanwhile, IGN's Wesley Yin-Poole reported Tuesday that 14 gameplay videos have been leaked, with the most recent installments depicting a nightclub, a beach, and a video game store.
New details on Caminos and Dazed
Official information about the game has also been shared through an exclusive preview feature in the magazine Dazed. According to that feature, players will be able to switch seamlessly between the two protagonists, Jason Duval and Caminos, who is described as "a fighter fresh out of prison." The characters can act independently or as a couple, Dazed reported.
Release timeline and trailers
The road to GTA VI's release has been lengthy. Grand Theft Auto V, the franchise's previous installment, came out 13 years ago. GTA VI was originally slated for a 2025 release, but the date was first pushed back to May 26, 2026, and then again to November 19, 2026. The first official trailer for the game appeared in December 2023, and a second trailer followed in May 2025.
The game will be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles when it launches on November 19. The upcoming extended look on Netflix is set to serve as the largest official preview Rockstar has shared so far, offering an early glimpse for fans who have been waiting for more than a decade.
