A New Chapter Amid Tragedy

Jake Reiner, the eldest son of director Rob Reiner, has reportedly married Maria Gilfillan, according to reports from TMZ and Page Six. The couple tied the knot in a small ceremony in early August, as first reported by TMZ, while Page Six characterized the wedding as reported but didn't provide a specific date. Reiner's representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

The relationship has largely stayed out of the spotlight, though the couple has made public appearances together, including at a film premiere in May 2025 and at a wedding in Las Vegas on Oct. 7, 2025. In September, they also attended the A. premiere of Rob Reiner's film "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues" with his entire family.

Jake was spotted wearing a gold wedding band during a KABC-TV interview with Marc Cota-Robles that was released Aug. 27, 2025. During that interview, he spoke publicly for the first time since the deaths of his parents.

Parents' Deaths and Legal Proceedings

Rob and Michele Reiner were found fatally stabbed in their Brentwood home on Dec. 14, 2025. Jake's sister, 27-year-old Romy Reiner, discovered the bodies; his younger brother, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with the crime and remains in jail awaiting trial.

In July, a grand jury indicted Nick on murder charges with special allegations of committing multiple murders and lying in wait, making him eligible for life without parole or the death penalty if convicted. Nick has pleaded not guilty. A pretrial hearing is slated for Sept. 15.

In the ABC7 interview, Jake expressed his ongoing grief: "Every moment that I wake up, I'm reminded of my reality, and you're living through that every single day." He also said, "I don't care how it's explained to me. I don't care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened."

Jake confirmed he has not spoken to his brother since their parents' deaths. "It's like I physically lost my parents and then Nick was arrested and now it's just me and my younger sister Romy," he said.

Coping and Milestones

In April, Jake wrote an essay on his Substack reflecting on the milestone moments he lost with his parents' deaths. "My parents won't be at my wedding, they won't get to hold their future grandchild, and they won't get to see me have the successful career I'm still seeking," he wrote. "It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me."

He also recalled his father's advice about relationships, writing that Rob Reiner told him, "Whenever I was in a difficult relationship, he would challenge me and say, 'You need to really think about what draws you to a person like this, and once you figure that out and break that pattern, you'll find the person who is truly right for you.'"

Jake wrote that he has found that person in Maria: "I'm proud to say I have found that person in Maria, and I couldn't be more grateful she had the chance to know and love my parents."

The couple's parents had been married for 36 years. Jake also noted that his parents "never stopped wanting to help" his younger brother, who had reportedly struggled with drug abuse and was diagnosed with schizophrenia weeks before the murders.
