Ram Temple Trust to Finalise First CEO from Shortlist of Three
AYODHYA: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to announce the first Chief Executive Officer of the Ram temple, with sources indicating that a shortlist of three candidates has been submitted to the trust for a final decision. The selection committee, headed by retired Justice Pramod Kohli, submitted the panel after a lengthy review process.
The trust announced on social media platform X that the "comprehensive, transparent, and technology-enabled process for selecting the Chief Executive Officer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra has been completed." In a separate statement, the trust noted that after reviewing 5,585 applications, detailed discussions were held with 16 candidates, and the selection committee submitted the final panel of three "highly qualified" candidates for the trust's consideration.
A meeting to deliberate on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the residence of trust president Nritya Gopal Das in Maniramdas Chhawani. According to sources, the agenda also includes the official announcement of a new trust secretary. The meeting comes amidst a controversy regarding the alleged theft of offerings and follows the resignation of former general secretary Champat Rai.
Justice Kohli, who led the selection panel along with retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi and expert member Suresh Hawde, provided details of the exhaustive process on Tuesday. "We can say with confidence that this selection process was entirely transparent and fair," Justice Kohli told reporters in Ayodhya. "The trust will now decide which of these three individuals will serve as the CEO."
Describing the timeline, Justice Kohli explained that the trust made its initial decision on July 6, with the formal letter of appointment for the search committee members issued on July 8. Following an initial meeting on July 11, applications were invited with a July 18 deadline. The committee received 5,585 applications between July 11 and 18.
To manage the large number of applicants, the panel created a Google Form featuring different categories and a 600-mark scoring system based on eligibility criteria. This was sent to 3,577 individuals. Further categorisation narrowed the field to 108 candidates who scored 470 marks or higher. Following four days of virtual interactions with these candidates, seventeen were shortlisted and categorised into Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C based on their performance. From this group, the panel selected three finalists.
Treasurer Govind Dev Giri confirmed the trust's expectations. "We sought this guidance because we were in search of an excellent CEO to ensure the superior management of such a big, world-renowned temple," Giri said. When asked if the new CEO would be named on Wednesday, he deferred to the board, stating, "It is up to the trust to decide. I expect it to happen, but the Board of Trustees will decide whether to do it or not."
The meeting is expected to finalise two panel members and a general secretary as well. The search for new leadership follows the trust experiencing several vacancies, including the recent passing of member Vimalendra Mohan Pratap Mishra and the resignations of Anil Mishra and former general secretary Champat Rai.
