Rajasthan Sets Ambitious Renewable Energy Target
Rajasthan is targeting 125 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with around 50 GW already installed, according to officials and industry representatives at the B2B Roadshow for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo (BRE Summit) 2026. The state aims to attract developers and investors as India works towards its 500 GW clean energy target.
Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), said the roadshow provides an opportunity for states to showcase their capabilities and attract investments in renewable energy. "It is a good platform and a good opportunity to show our capabilities and expertise to the developers and to learn from them," he said.
Highlighting Rajasthan's investment potential, Kulhari noted the state already has a wind blade industry in Jaisalmer and several module manufacturing plants. He said developers, investors, and policymakers can use the platform to interact and understand the state's ease of doing business.
"Rajasthan can also showcase that come to us and invest here. We will help you in ease of doing business," Kulhari said, adding that state pavilions and dedicated cabins at the summit would provide an avenue to present investment opportunities.
Roadshow Series and Upcoming Summit
The roadshow series has started from Rajasthan and will subsequently cover Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai, Kulhari said. The initiative is also expected to bring international participation, including experts working on green hydrogen from Europe, Japan, and the US.
The BRE Summit is scheduled in New Delhi from November 2 to 5.
Kulhari said Rajasthan and other states with strong renewable energy potential need greater participation from developers and investors to accelerate capacity creation. He also highlighted the ministry's engagement with the industry, saying MNRE holds monthly discussions with solar manufacturers, developers, wind industry players, and other stakeholders to address their concerns and take policy decisions.
India Crosses 300 GW Non-Fossil Fuel Capacity
India's installed non-fossil fuel power capacity has crossed the 300-GW mark, accounting for more than 54 per cent of the country's total installed electricity generation capacity, a senior Union government official said. The milestone was highlighted at the first regional roadshow for the BRE Summit 2026, held as part of a nationwide outreach campaign ahead of the event.
India's installed non-fossil fuel capacity stood at 300.50 GW as of July 31, achieving more than 60 per cent of the country's target of 500 GW by 2030, according to the MNRE.
Kulhari said India's clean energy transition was a shared national mission, with resource-rich states such as Rajasthan playing a key role. "With our installed non-fossil capacity having crossed the 300-GW milestone, regional roadshows like this play a vital role in aligning state capabilities with national targets," he said.
He added that the BRE Summit would bring the entire renewable energy value chain together and provide a platform to translate policy objectives into bankable projects, cross-border investments, and technological partnerships.
Rajasthan's Shift to Hybrid and Green Fuels
Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) Chairman and Managing Director Rohit Gupta said the state was moving beyond standalone solar projects and seeking to build an investment ecosystem for wind-solar hybrid infrastructure, battery energy storage, and emerging green fuels such as green hydrogen.
Ravi Verma, Member of the Governing Council at the Sustainable Projects Development Association, said India crossed around 300 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity and is on track to reach 500 GW by 2030.
The roadshow also mentioned the PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM schemes as opportunities to expand renewable energy deployment.
