Putin: Russia Faces Defining Moment, Vows Resolute Action
MOSCOW, July 27. Russian President Vladimir Putin told lawmakers that Russia is going through a defining moment in its history, facing external pressure and sanctions, but remains stable and capable of achieving its goals. He thanked the State Duma for its work and stressed unity in defending national interests.
At a meeting marking the end of the State Duma's eighth convocation, Putin said Russia is experiencing "one of the defining stages in the history of the Fatherland, when the fate of our people is at stake." He acknowledged the historical period is difficult, noting that every Russian citizen understands this.
The president also thanked lawmakers, calling them a "combat unit" of the people and thanking them for their "effective joint work" in strengthening state sovereignty and defending national interests.
Pressure and Sanctions
Putin said Russia faced pressure both before and after the "Russian Spring" of 2014, and that since 2022 the West has been setting "records" in sanctions. He asserted that the Russian financial system is currently stable and that the country is holding steady in the global tech race.
He added that Russia is capable of "giving a decisive rebuff to any hostile steps" and will act prudently but resolutely on the battlefield to achieve its goals, according to his remarks as reported by TASS.
Unity and Defense
The president said Russia's multinational people have responded to external pressure with internal unity, and that the country continues to defend its security and independence, truth, and justice. He also said that all of Russian society has rallied around military personnel defending their Fatherland, and a comprehensive system of legal guarantees has been established for participants and veterans of the special military operation.
