Poco unveils F9 Pro and F9 Ultra
Xiaomi sub-brand Poco has announced the launch of its new flagship smartphones, the Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra. The two handsets share a similar design and several core specifications, but the Ultra model differentiates itself with upgraded hardware and a larger battery.
Processors and performance
The Poco F9 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which has been used in Android flagships over the past year. In contrast, the Poco F9 Pro runs on the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series (SM8850-1-AB). According to Qualcomm's own documents, the V Series chip features a slightly watered-down GPU—still an Adreno 840 but with one less GPU slice compared to the standard 8 Elite Gen 5.
Both devices incorporate a dedicated 12nm VisionBoost D8 graphics chip that handles AI frame insertion and super-resolution processing. Memory and storage options differ between the models: the F9 Ultra can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, while the F9 Pro maxes out at 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Displays and build
The F9 Pro and F9 Ultra both feature AMOLED screens with a 185Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. The F9 Pro's display measures 6.59 inches diagonally with a resolution of 2510 x 1156, while the F9 Ultra steps up to a 6.9-inch panel with a 2608 x 1200 resolution. Both screens support 480Hz 10-point touch sampling and 4800Hz instant touch sampling, and are protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. Integrated ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are included on both models.
In terms of durability, the F9 series devices are rated IP68 against water and dust, and they include NFC support. Both phones run Xiaomi's HyperOS 3 out of the box, which is based on Android 16 and comes with four promised updates.
Cameras and audio
Camera hardware sees a major overhaul on both models, starting with a shared 200MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and 4K video recording. The secondary camera configurations branch off from there. The Poco F9 Pro pairs the main camera with a 50MP floating telephoto lens capable of 2.5x optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. The Poco F9 Ultra, in turn, features a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom (ISOCELL JN5) alongside a 50MP ultra-wide sensor (OV50M). Both phones include a 32MP front-facing selfie camera.
Audio performance has been tuned in partnership with Bose. The F9 Pro comes equipped with symmetrical dual stereo speakers, whereas the F9 Ultra introduces a 2.1-channel audio configuration that combines dual stereo speakers with an independent 1620 rear subwoofer.
Battery and charging
The F9 Ultra houses a massive 8,050mAh silicon-carbon battery with a 16% silicon content, while the F9 Pro is equipped with a 6,330mAh cell. Both handsets support 100W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse wireless charging.
Pricing and availability
Poco has announced pricing for the two models, with the F9 Pro starting at $699 for the 12GB/256GB configuration, or €899.99 in Europe. Early Bird pricing brings that down to $649 (€739.99). The F9 Ultra starts at $799 (€1,099.99) for the same 12GB/256GB configuration, with an Early Bird price of $729 (€829.99). Additional configurations include a 12GB/512GB F9 Pro at $769 (€999.99) and a 16GB/1TB F9 Ultra at $1,199 (€1,399.99), with Early Bird discounts available for each tier.
