Player registration for the SA20 Season 5 Auction has officially opened, allowing cricketers in South Africa and worldwide to register their interest ahead of the October 7 auction. The registration window began at 1:30 PM IST on Monday, August 24, and will remain open for three weeks until 8:30 PM IST on Monday, September 14, 2026, as reported by ANI and The Tribune.
Team Slot Breakdown and Salary Cap
With all six franchises having finalized their retentions and pre-signings, 19 slots remain to be filled on October 7 across four teams. Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals have already completed their 19-player rosters for the milestone fifth season of SA20.
Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town head into the auction with the most work to do, each needing to fill six slots, including one Under-23 player apiece. Pretoria Capitals have five slots open, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape have two remaining.
In terms of spending power, Joburg Super Kings lead with 1.29 million USD remaining in their salary cap, followed by MI Cape Town with 580,000 USD. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have 223,000 USD left to spend, while Pretoria Capitals have 91,500 USD, as per a press release cited by ANI.
Retained and Pre-Signed Star Power
The retained and pre-signed squads feature notable international talent, with Mitchell Marsh, Joe Root, Sam Curran, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder, and Phil Salt confirmed for Season 5. They are joined by Proteas players including Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Lungi Ngidi, and David Miller.
