Additional Funds for Godavari Riverbank Development
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has sanctioned an additional ₹100 crore for development works in Godavari riverbank villages ahead of the Godavari Pushkarams, as reported by The Times of India and The Hindu.
The allocation, made under the theme 'Swachh Godavari – Pavitra Pushkaralu' (Clean Godavari – Sacred Pushkaralu), will be routed through the Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply (RWS) departments. This is in addition to ₹100 crore previously sanctioned through the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), which will be utilized based on proposals submitted by districts for Polavaram, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, and Dr. R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts.
Allocation Details and Infrastructure Works
Of the new ₹100 crore, ₹90 crore will be used for 111 projects, including the construction of around 141 kilometers of cement concrete (CC) and bituminous (BT) roads. These roads will connect villages to Pushkar ghats in the Razole, P. Gannavaram, Ramachandrapuram, Rampachodavaram, Achanta, Narsapuram, and Palakollu constituencies. Internal village roads will also be upgraded where required.
The remaining ₹10 crore, from the Rural Water Supply department, will be spent on providing safe drinking water to pilgrims at every Pushkar ghat. The works are aimed at ensuring cleaner, better-connected, and pilgrim-friendly facilities across villages along the Godavari basin during the Pushkaralu.
Broader Vision for Pushkarams
According to The Hindu, Deputy Chief Minister Kalyan said the Pushkarams should not be confined to major centers such as Rajamahendravaram, and that facilities should be provided in riverbank villages for holy baths, prayers, and ancestral rituals.
In line with this approach, a ₹7 crore model Pushkar panchayat is being developed at Munikoodali in the Rajamahendravaram Rural constituency. Works at the village, including CC roads, tower lights, drains, soak pits, and urinals at the Pushkar ghats, are nearing completion, the Jana Sena Party said in a post on X. Amenities are also being provided at the Sapta Rishi Ghat there.
