Parth Jindal Appointed Chairman of JSW MG Motor India
Parth Jindal has been appointed Chairman of JSW MG Motor India with immediate effect, following a decision by the company's Board of Directors on August 31, 2026. The announcement was made on Monday, according to multiple reports. Jindal has served on the board since the formation of the joint venture between JSW Group and China's SAIC Motor, and has been closely involved in shaping the company's product strategy, manufacturing expansion, and localisation programme, the company said.
The appointment comes as JSW MG Motor India pushes ahead with an expansion strategy focused on new products, electric vehicles, and greater localisation. The company has reported sales of more than 150,000 electric vehicles since its initial launch, with the MG Windsor now recognised as India's best-selling EV, according to several reports. However, one report identifies the MG ZS as the country's best-selling EV, highlighting a discrepancy in the available information.
Leadership and Corporate Roles
Beyond his role at JSW MG Motor India, Jindal holds several senior positions within the JSW Group. He is Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, Chairman of JSW Dulux Limited, and a Director on the Board of JSW Energy. He is also Founder of JSW Sports and serves as Chairman and Co-Owner of the Delhi Capitals.
Jindal is the youngest among the three children of Sajjan Jindal and Sangita Jindal. He attended Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and Sevenoaks School in England. He obtained a BA in economics and political science from Brown University in 2012, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2016.
Strategic Expansion and Manufacturing
JSW MG Motor India currently operates with an annual production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles at its Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company plans to increase this capacity to 60 lakh units by March 2027, and further to 20 lakh units by January 2028, according to reports. These expansions are part of a broader strategy to support a growing product portfolio and strengthen its market presence.
The company recently expanded its vehicle lineup with the launch of the Hector Tomahawk EV and Hector Tomahawk PHEV, introduced at introductory ex-showroom prices of 50 lakh and 70 lakh, respectively. Its internal combustion engine portfolio includes the Astor, Hector, and Majestor, while its EV range comprises the Comet, Windsor, ZS, M9, and Cyberster.
Investment and Localisation Plans
JSW MG Motor India and its suppliers are investing around ₹6,000 crore, with approximately ₹3,500 crore coming from the company and ₹2,500 crore from vendors, according to a single report. The company aims to reach about 70 per cent localisation for the Windsor and Hector Tomahawk by the end of calendar 2027. Additionally, JSW Motors plans to launch its first JSW-branded passenger vehicle around Diwali 2026.
In a related development, JSW Motors secured a roughly ₹8,000 crore funding line from State Bank of India this year. The company is also in discussions with Volkswagen Group over a potential partnership involving its India operations, as reported by one source.
Background and Context
The joint venture between JSW Group and SAIC Motor was established in 2023, with JSW taking a 35% stake in the Indian automaker. The partnership aims to combine JSW's understanding of the Indian market with SAIC's global automotive expertise. JSW MG Motor India has focused on sustainable mobility, advanced technology integration, and building a robust local supply chain to support its growth ambitions in the country's passenger-vehicle market.
