On-air gaffe

Paddy McGuinness found himself making a swift apology during a BBC Radio 2 broadcast after a listener's confession about her shopping habits took an unintended turn. The presenter, known for his roles in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, was reading a message from a listener named Debbie, who admitted to an addiction to buying jugs, chopping boards, and frying pans.

"Jugs, chopping boards and frying pans. I cannot stop buying them, Paddy. I'm drawn to them, and I live on my own. I can't help it. I'm addicted," Debbie's message read, as quoted by both The Daily Star and Teesside Live.

McGuinness responded that he could relate to one item in particular, revealing that he had recently picked up a Pyrex jug during a shopping trip for bedding and salt and pepper grinders. "There's something about those little glass shiny things. I'm like a magpie when it comes to jugs," he said.

It was at that point that laughter erupted in the studio, as McGuinness appeared to cotton on to the double meaning of the word. He exclaimed "Oh, God," and after an uneasy silence, quickly interjected: "I do apologise. That... please... that is not how I...," before declaring "Moving on…"

Both outlets reported the incident, with The Daily Star describing it as an "awkward plea" and Teesside Live noting the "risqué" turn the conversation took.

Celebrity MasterChef appearance

McGuinness is also set to appear on the new series of Celebrity MasterChef, according to reports from both The Daily Star and Teesside Live. The programme's description, as quoted by the outlets, mentions the 21st series, a glittering line-up of celebrities, and a series of challenges leading to one winner being crowned and receiving the Celebrity MasterChef trophy.

McGuinness will be among the celebrity guest judges, alongside Angry Ginge and Zoe Ball, with Angry Ginge also taking part in the series. While both outlets confirm McGuinness's involvement, only one report specifies that he will make a "surprise appearance."

Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One tonight (August 19) from 9pm to 10pm.
