Record Night for Edmunds Propels Huntington Beach to 42-14 Win

Huntington Beach senior quarterback Brady Edmunds delivered a performance for the ages on Thursday night, setting a school record with 446 passing yards and accounting for six touchdowns in a dominant 42-14 road victory over Millikan. The Ohio State commit completed 25 of 32 passes, a career-best, and added 30 yards on the ground.

Edmunds, who had hinted at a breakout performance in a social media post two weeks prior, was nearly flawless from the start. His lone blemish came on an interception to Millikan defensive back Matteo Palma on the second play after halftime, but by then he had already led the Oilers to a 21-0 lead.

Bruce Emerges as Top Target

A key to Edmunds' success was his connection with senior wide receiver Dylin Bruce, who hauled in 10 receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns.

"I caught the ball, I'd seen green grass," Bruce said of his first touchdown. "I had to go. I knew it was my touchdown."

Bruce's breakout performance was a major factor in Huntington Beach's ability to pull away in the second half, turning a 14-0 halftime lead into a blowout.

Coach Pellum: 'He's a Really Good Quarterback'

Millikan head coach Romeo Pellum was full of praise for Edmunds after the game, calling him "probably number one in the country, in my opinion." Pellum noted Edmunds' ability to make all types of throws, saying he can "pick you apart" whether a defense plays off or presses.

Career Milestones Within Reach

The game also served as a showcase for Edmunds' remarkable career numbers. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound signal-caller has now thrown for 9,083 yards and 98 touchdowns in 37 games with the Oilers, and is on pace to surpass 10,000 career passing yards before the Delta League schedule resumes on Oct. 2.

Recruiting Saga Behind Him

Edmunds, who committed to Ohio State in December 2024, briefly wavered in his pledge earlier this year when the Buckeyes were in contact with other quarterbacks. However, he announced in July that he was shutting down his recruitment, writing on X that "Columbus is home." He is rated a four-star prospect and is among the top-20 quarterback prospects in the country according to both Rivals and 247Sports Composite.
