A Long-Rumored Collab Finally Confirmed
After months of speculation, Paradox Interactive has officially revealed Lego Skylines, a city-building game set in the worlds of LEGO and the Cities Skylines franchise. The announcement came during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, as network covered by GamesRadar+ and Kotaku.
A brief trailer accompanied the reveal, offering a glimpse of the game's style: a shocked fisherman watches as LEGO buildings assemble themselves, a scene that evoked the whimsical tone of classic LEGO games for the GamesRadar+ reporter.
A Cozy Take on the Genre
According to the official description quoted by Kotaku, the game invites players to "build a city where everything just clicks in LEGO® Skylines," pitching a "cozy, customizable city-builder" where "your choices bring a living, breathing metropolis to life." The tagline promises: "No instructions. Unlimited space. And there's just one rule. Make it yours."
Both outlets placed the game in the cozy genre, marking a lighter, more approachable twist on the deep simulation systems of its predecessor. "Go big or obsess over the details" the description suggests, likely appealing to both newcomers and series veterans.
Development and Platforms
Lego Skylines is being developed by Iceflake Studios, the team currently behind Cities: Skylines 2, as GamesRadar+ reported. The original Cities creator, Colossal Order, stepped away from the franchise at the end of last year, according to the same report.
The game has been confirmed for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2, though neither outlet provided a release window. GamesRadar+ noted that the trailer offered little more than a teaser, and fans will have to wait for more substantial gameplay footage.
What Led to the Announcement
Before the reveal, Lego Skylines had surfaced in a different form. In May 2025, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea rated a slate of upcoming titles, including Persona 4 Revival, Ace Combat 8, Gears of War E-Day, and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse — and, along with them, an unannounced Paradox Interactive title named "Lego Skylines." GamesRadar+ referenced that listing, noting that it fueled speculation of a LEGO–Cities Skylines crossover.
The anticipation had clearly built over the intervening months. Kotaku described the project as "previously leaked and rumored," and its official announcement at Gamescom finally turn rumor into reality.
Enthusiasm and Expectations
GamesRadar+ and Kotaku writers both framed the announcement as a personal victory. The GamesRadar+ journalist, who grew up on classic LEGO games like Rock Raiders and Lego Island, expressed surprise that a LEGO city-builder had not been attempted earlier. Kotaku's reporter called a LEGO city-builder "basically catnip," adding that the chance to build a city with digital bricks and minifigs "sounds like a dream come true."
With no release date announced, fans will have to see how long they have to wait to start clicking their bricks. The cozy, personal-building promise is clear: it aims to make players' city a uniquely theirs.
