Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman is facing multiple charges, including family violence battery, reckless conduct, and first-degree criminal damage to property, in connection with an incident that occurred in June. According to TMZ, Bateman is alleged to have smashed the window of his child's mother's car while their 3-year-old was inside. The arrest warrant states that he used an object to break the windshield and driver's side window of the alleged victim's 2021 Mercedes-Benz, and that shattered glass caused multiple small cuts on the alleged victim's face. Bateman surrendered to police later that day.

Accuser Recants

Marissa Crumley, the mother of Bateman's child, has recanted her initial allegations in an email sent on June 8, five days after the alleged incident. Crumley authorized Bateman's attorneys to provide the email to TMZ, in which she said she wanted to explain the "true side of the story." She wrote that officers pressured her into identifying Bateman and invaded her privacy by lifting her head wrap to photograph marks on her face. She claimed the bruises and marks were self-inflicted "out of emotion and frustration."

Crumley specifically recanted her allegation that Bateman pushed her into a wall, writing, "He did not push me or put hands on me in any way." She said she made untrue statements because she was upset and wanted to get Bateman "in trouble." Crumley also wrote that she and Bateman are not violent toward one another, still love each other, and want to move forward in a healthier way for their daughter.

Initial Police Report

According to TMZ's earlier reporting, Crumley initially told police that Bateman shoved her into a corner wall during an early morning June 3 argument at their home. She also claimed he later used a screwdriver to try to puncture her rear tire and smash the windshield and driver-side window of her Mercedes after the two met up. Their infant daughter was in the vehicle during the alleged car attack. Police reported that shattered glass caused cuts to Crumley's face, and while EMS found no apparent injuries to the child, both mother and daughter were taken to a hospital.

Legal and Team Responses

Bateman's attorney, Jordan Siev, released a statement to TMZ saying, "It is unfortunate that a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons," adding, "We will let the court process play out and the facts will come out at that time."

The Baltimore Ravens also released a statement to TMZ, saying, "We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him. We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."

Bateman is a former first-round pick out of the University of Minnesota, drafted by the Ravens with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The case reportedly remains ongoing.
