New Pokémon Movie 'Wild Card' Announced for 2027

The Pokémon Company has officially announced a new animated film,Pokémon: Wild Card, scheduled for release in 2027. The movie was revealed during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, as confirmed by Pokémon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara. “For the first time in seven years, a new Pokémon movie is on its way,” Ishihara said at the event.

The film marks the first Pokémon movie sincePokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle was released in Japan in 2020. According to IGN, Ishihara described the main character as a card game player who is “battling and striving to be a champion.” The teaser shown at the championship also indicated the film is “coming 2027 and beyond,” suggesting the possibility of a larger series.

The movie is being directed by Katsuhiko Kitada, with characters designed by Akemi Hayashi. Production is handled by Story , while CloverWorks is responsible for the animation. The story will feature a Pokémon Trading Card Game player and the Pokémon Mimikyu, as revealed in a clip shared on the official Pokémon Instagram page.
