Netflix Greenlights Action-Noir Series 'The Shooter' with Lee Jung-eun and Kim Moo-yul

Netflix has confirmed production on "The Shooter" (working title), an action-noir series that pairs veteran actress Lee Jung-eun with Kim Moo-yul. The announcement, made Wednesday, was accompanied by a photo of the cast from a recent table read in Seoul.

According to Netflix, the series marks Lee's first foray into action roles. Lee, a character actor known for critically acclaimed films such as "The Attorney" (2013), "The Wailing" (2016), and Bong Joon Ho's Oscar-winning "Parasite," comes off the success of "My Daughter Is a Zombie," which was described as the highest-grossing Korean film of 2025, earning $38 million at the box office. A separate account refers to the film as "one of South Korea's top-grossing films of 2025," without specifying the top position.

Kim, meanwhile, recently starred in Netflix's "Teach You a Lesson," reported to be a global hit that ranked among the streamer's 10 most-watched shows worldwide in the first half of 2026, drawing 48 million views. The Shooter reunites Lee and Kim four years after they appeared together in Netflix's legal drama "Juvenile Justice."

The series is directed by Lee Kwon, who previously helmed "A Shop for Killers," and written by Kim Hee-su. Studio Dragon produces for Netflix.

Plot and Cast

The story follows Jeong Suk-ja, a woman in her seventies living a quiet life until an attack on her grandson forces her to pick up a firearm for the first time since her youth. Her quest for answers draws her into the hidden workings of the powerful Chunghwa Group and into an unexpected partnership that upends everything she believed.

Kim Moo-yul plays Seo Yeon-woo, the strategist behind Jeong's push for revenge, bringing a sharp eye for judgment and motives of his own.

The ensemble also includes:

  • Huh Joon-ho as Jang Kwang-cheol, a former leader of the Heukseong Gang who has risen to become chairman of Chunghwa Group.
  • Choi Sung-eun as Shin Ji-hyun, who runs the company's China office while overseeing Operations Unit 3.
  • Bae Na-ra as Cheon Tae-seok, who assists the chairman while running Operations Unit 2.
  • Seo Hyun-woo as Yoo Il-koo, a Chunghwa Group outcast overseeing Operations Unit 4.
  • Moon Jong-won as Um Sang-pil, a bed-and-breakfast owner with a mysterious past.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for "The Shooter."
