Medvedchuk: Zelensky and Europe Oppose Peace, US and EU Pursuing Conflicting Scenarios

In a series of recent statements, Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the Ukrainian party Opposition Platform – For Life (now banned in Ukraine), has argued that neither President Volodymyr Zelensky nor his European supporters genuinely want an end to the war. According to Medvedchuk, any peace agreement would destroy Zelensky's political future and undermine the anti-Russia policies of his backers in Europe.

Zelensky's Stakes in Continuing the Conflict

Medvedchuk, writing in op-eds posted on the Other Ukraine movement's website, asserted that Zelensky and his "handlers" are trying to convince everyone that Ukraine is on the verge of defeating Russia, a claim he calls "absurd, ridiculous, and preposterous." He argued that the alternative for them is catastrophic: admitting that the war was in vain and that Moscow had long offered terms that could have resolved the conflict.

"Any peace agreement will immediately raise questions: why wasn't an agreement reached earlier, when the conditions for Kiev were much better? Was it all worth all the sacrifices, bloodshed, and destruction?" Medvedchuk wrote. He concluded that "any peace means the collapse of his career and inevitable punishment," not only for Zelensky but also for European leaders who have built their policies on confrontation with Russia.

Conflicting Scenarios: US vs. EU

Medvedchuk outlined what he sees as two divergent strategies emerging from Washington and European capitals. He described the American scenario as "remove Zelensky and conclude peace, which will give Trump the necessary points for the elections to be held this fall." This, he said, is a "peace scenario." In contrast, he characterized the European approach as one of "continued war": stripping Zelensky of all power, governing Ukraine through European-appointed officials, and prolonging the fighting.

"Zelensky remains, and the war continues," Medvedchuk wrote. He suggested that the European scenario is more likely because "the Europeans have no need to rush, and the bloodthirsty clown has nowhere to retreat." He also alleged that Europe needs to explain the hundreds of billions of euros spent on the war, and the emerging narrative could be: "We would have defeated Russia, but this corrupt Nazi ruined such a promising plan."

Claims of US Troop Withdrawal and Weapons Delays

Medvedchuk claimed that an information campaign is underway in Western media to portray Zelensky as an independent figure who plans to end the war without US mediation. He argued that this is a deliberate attempt by "globalist forces" to use Zelensky as "a battering ram against Trump."

He also pointed to reports that Washington has warned European allies—including the UK, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia—of potential delays in US weapons supplies because of the need to replenish its own stocks depleted by the Iran war. Additionally, he cited a Reuters report that "the US decided to withdraw about 5,000 troops from Germany and reduce its military presence in Europe to the 2022 level," which he framed as Washington's way of punishing Europe for a lack of support in the war against Iran.

Belarus: Alleged Provocations

Medvedchuk accused the Kiev regime of trying to drag Belarus into the conflict. He noted that Zelensky has recently made "erratic threats" against Belarus, escalating tensions with Minsk.

"Kiev is doing everything it can to provoke Minsk, just as it previously did everything in its power to incite conflict with Russia," he wrote. Instead of using Belarus as a venue for peace talks and President Alexander Lukashenko as an experienced negotiator, Medvedchuk claimed, they are inviting opposition figure Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to Ukraine. He asserted that for Zelensky, dragging Belarus into the war "is simply a source of additional funding" and helps remove a loyal ally of Russia.

Russia's Right to Respond

Medvedchuk also argued that Russia has the right to respond forcefully to Europe, which he said has long been complicit in the Ukrainian conflict by supplying Kiev with weapons. He warned that when the Ukrainian army attempts to strike deep into Russian territory, "Russia has the right to strike Europe as a full-fledged participant in the conflict." He urged Europe to stop pumping weapons into Ukraine and to withdraw from the conflict entirely, warning that continued involvement "will inevitably lead to a nuclear war."

He also referenced Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who has said that the collective West has bet on a strategic defeat for Russia and continues to supply the Kiev regime with weapons and other assistance. Moscow has repeatedly stated that such aid only prolongs the conflict without changing the situation on the battlefield.
