Committee to probe NEET-PG disruption

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the internal power supply failure that disrupted the NEET-PG 2026 examination at two iON Digital Zone centres in Sitapura, Jaipur, Rajasthan, sources said. The committee is chaired by Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department of the Rajasthan government, and includes a senior official from the state government, a Joint Secretary-level officer from the Union Health Ministry, and a senior engineering official from the Central Electricity Authority.

According to NBEMS sources, the examination could not be completed at the affected centres due to internal power supply issues. The committee will examine the circumstances leading to the power failure and ascertain the reasons for the disruption, and is expected to submit its report within a stipulated timeframe.

Re-examination announced

NBEMS announced that the examination for 2,445 affected candidates at the two Sitapura centres would be conducted afresh on September 5 at 3 pm in Jaipur. The board expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates and said the re-examination is being conducted to ensure that they receive a fair and equitable opportunity.

Earlier, Additional District Magistrate Narendra Verma told reporters that officials had discussed the technical failure with the TCS technical team, district officials, the flying squad, and power supply and inspection teams. He said the system failed to handle the load despite repeated attempts, and acknowledged that students should not face injustice. "They have ensured that a re-examination will be held on September 5 at 3 pm," he said.

Wider impact and background

A total of 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the NEET-PG examination, with the examination successfully completed for approximately 2,63,535 candidates, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

The disruption at the Sitapura centres followed reports of technical problems at the same venue during the AIIMS CRE-5 re-examination on Monday. India Today reported that the AIIMS CRE-5 exam at the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centre was delayed by 30 minutes due to a server failure. The exam, scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm, began only at around 9:30 am, and the server reportedly failed again about 20 minutes into the examination, triggering an uproar among candidates.

Candidates at the NEET-PG centres had alleged that the electricity supply failed at regular intervals, with some claiming disruptions every 10 to 15 minutes. They said the glitches disrupted login, access to questions, and their ability to continue the computer-based examination. The affected NEET-PG centres were identified as TC Nos. 41682 and 41683 in Jaipur.

In the wake of the recurring technical issues, candidates were demanding the cancellation of the All-India examination, according to India Today.

Fact check on leak rumours

The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit on Sunday evening termed as misleading social media posts claiming that the NEET-PG question papers were leaked in Jaipur. In a post on X, PIB Fact Check said, "There has been no question paper leak in the NEET-PG examination." It clarified that technical disruptions were faced at the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centres due to internal power supply issues, and said the examination for the affected students will be conducted on September 5.
